The “19 Strong” varsity boys football team of Antwerp travelled to Edgerton Friday, coming out on the short end of a 54-31 score. The game started slow for the Archers. A quick three and out punt led to an 83 yard scamper for the Bulldog’s Duane Miller. The Archer offense struggled with the Edgerton front line and went down after one quarter 14-0. Following a quick second quarter score by Edgerton Antwerp moved the ball slightly better with three first downs and a 59 yard run by Junior Justice Clark. This lead to a one yard plunge by Senior Nick Barnhouse , making the score 20-6 at the 8:45 mark of the second quarter. As hard as the Archers worked to get back, Edgerton found answers. The ‘Dogs put up 20 points during the rest of the quarter and took a comfortable 40-6 lead into the half. This was evidently not comfortable for the Archers.

With a 30 point lead the new running clock rule went into effect in the third quarter. It didn’t last long. The Archers held Edgerton to a three and out punt. On the Archers first play from scrimmage Nick Barnhouse scampered 57 yards for a first down. Three plays later at the 7:02 mark of the 3rd quarter, Justice Clark scored on a one yard dive and Jarrett Bute tacked on a point to put a halt to the running clock for good with a 40-13 score.

The fourth quarter opened with a poor punt by Edgerton and Antwerp made quick work with another Nick Barnhouse score at the 10:41 mark for a 40-19 score. Edgerton answered on the next play from scrimmage on a Miller 81 yard run and kick made the score 47-19. Antwerp followed suit with an answer three plays later on a 57 yard pass from Freshman QB Josh Poulson that deflected off a Bulldog helmet into the hands of Justice Clark, closing the gap with a 40-25 score. Again, Edgerton answered seven more points to go back on top 54-25. Antwerp still failed to give up. With Edgerton trying to move the ball, Sophomore defender Mike Taylor took the ball from an Edgerton runner and ran 21 yards for the final Archer score.

Antwerp returns to the gridiron Friday hosting Hicksville at 7pm.
