State Patrol Investigating 2 Vehicle Injury Crash

sheriff police badgeVan Wert – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating an injury crash that occurred at 2:31 PM, on US Route 224 near the intersection of Van Wert Decatur Road, Van Wert County.

A 2009 Honda Accord, driven by David D. Rump, age 50, of Lewistown, Ohio was westbound on US Route 224. Mr. Rump attempted to turn left onto Van Wert Decatur Road. Mr. Rump failed to yield to an eastbound 2005 Jeep Laredo, driven by Corrie A. Sacket, age 32, of Bluffton, Indiana. The Honda became disabled in the middle of US Route 224 and the Jeep came to rest off the north side of the roadway.

Mr. Rump was transported to the Van Wert County Hospital for treatment of minor injury. Mr. Rump was wearing his seat belt and also had front and side air bag deployment which minimized his injuries. Mrs. Sacket and two minor children were also transported to the Van Wert County Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both Mrs. Sacket and a 9 year old child were wearing their seatbelts. A 4 year old child was properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were the Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department, Brickner EMS, Knippen’s Towing, and Straightline Auto Body.
