No one could guess the outcome of the first sectional game of the 2014 basketball season when Antwerp and Holgate competed at Paulding. Though Antwerp’s record was much better than Holgate, previously the Tigers won against Antwerp in January.

The game started with Antwerp’s Derek Smalley getting the ball. The possession of the ball traded sides several times before the first points were posted by Sam Williamson on a 3-point basket. The score stayed close until nearing the end of the first quarter when Brummett recovered the ball from a Tiger misstep, running down and scoring a layup. This happened with different players on Antwerp three times in a row in less than a 30 second time slot. Antwerp led by 5 points at the end of the 1st quarter.
In the second quarter Holgate slowly and steadily crept back within two points of Antwerp. Before the end of the second Antwerp got their groove back and posted a few more points to finish the first half at 21-25 with the Archers in the lead.
The second half of the game had Holgate collect the most points and the fourth quarter Antwerp. The game finished with Antwerp winning 49-42. Antwerp and Holgate both had two quarters where they scored the most. The home team outscored the Tigers in both halves.

Holgate finished their season with a 9-14 record. Antwerp is currently at 14-9. This season both Antwerp and Holgate won against each other, but the Archers won the game that mattered the most.
The first game had Ayersville beat Hicksville 48-36. The Pilots will take on at Antwerp on Friday at 8pm for the Sectional Championship at Paulding.
