It was a good recovery, but not enough for the Bulldogs to move on in the tournament.

The Lady Dawgs competed against Bishop Dwenger at Garrett High School on Wednesday, February 12. This was for the IHSAA sectional basketball Tournament.

Previously in regular season play the New Haven girls basketball team had won against the the Knights 60-49. With the weather this year, the ladies had nearly a three week hiatus in playing and this may account for the struggle in the last part of this basketball season.

This was a different game and both teams got off to a rough start. Many shots were taken but the first basket didn’t take place until the middle of the first quarter. The first points of the game were posted by New Haven’s Olivia Casterline. New Haven quickly got the upper hand and was ahead in the game by 5 points. The Saints got themselves back together and the score was 9-8 at the first quarter with the Bulldogs in the lead.

In the second quarter Dwenger kept it’s groove while New Haven struggled with getting their first basket with 4:00 left on the clock. The second quarter finished 16-27, Saints on top.

The second half was much better for the Lady Dawgs, as they outscored the guest team 32-25, but it wasn’t enough to recover from the first quarter deficit in this close tournament game. The final score was 52-48 with Dwenger going on to play Concordia on Friday in the tournament bracket.
