Paulding Wrestlers Win NWC Title

The Paulding Panther wrestling team made a second straight NWC Championship at Allen East on Saturday, Feb 1. Three Paulding wrestlers won their weight class. Taylor Deatrick finished first in the 132# division, claiming his second consecutive title. Deatrick was also voted Most Valuable Wrestler for 2014, this honor is voted on by the coaches. Deatrick also finished 5-0 with all pins. Aaron Mock 152# took top honors in his division. Mock recorded two pins, a major decision and a decision for his 4-0 wins. Dakota Valdez 195# took top place in his division. Valdez went 5-0, recording two pins, two major decision and a decision. Also placing were Sidney Salinas 106# 2nd place. Branson Minck 120# also took 2nd place, Kage Seals 113# placed 3rd and Zac Wesley 145# placed 3rd.

Other placers for Paulding Dylan Gamble 126# placed 4th, Adam Deatrick 170# placed 3rd, Cotey Nichols 182 # placed 6th, Cody Jarrell 160# placed 4th, Clystal Ramirez 220# placed 5th.

Coach Tony Gonzales received the Coach of the Year award, this honor is voted on by the coaches in the NWC. Coach Gonzales himself is two time conference champ. “The team did an excellent job to bring the trophy home two years straight.” stated Coach Gonzales.
