Matthew M. “Matt” Roughton

Roughton pictureOAKWOOD – Matthew M. “Matt” Roughton, 49, of Oakwood died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at The Laurels of Defiance. He was born September 6, 1963 in Paulding to Rollin R. and Carolyn (Tunks) Roughton. His father is deceased, his mother survives in Oakwood.

He is also survived by 2 brothers: Gene (Judy) Roughton of Oakwood and Eric (Shelly) Roughton of Paulding; 2 sisters: Rhonda (Buck) Downing of Oakwood and Diana (Ron) Sierer of Paulding; 3 nephews; 7 nieces; 4 great-nephews; and 2 great-nieces. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Cheryl Early.

Matt was a set-up operator for Thompson Steel in Paulding from 1995 to 2007. He worked at Cooper Farms from 1978 to 1987. He was a 3rd class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and served from 1982 to 1986. He was on the 1st crew of the newly commissioned U.S.S. Doyle and then was in the reserves. Matt was a member of the Oakwood American Legion post #341. He was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men’s Group.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Melrose United Methodist Church with Rev. Eileen Kochensparger officiating. Burial will follow in Little Auglaize Cemetery, Oakwood with military rites by the Oakwood American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm. on Saturday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood and one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to Melrose United Methodist Church or to The American Cancer Society.
