Payne’s Downtown to Undergo More Changes

Payne Village

On the heels of the Payne Chamber of Commerce’s ‘jaw dropping’ project in 2012, the Organization is at it again with plans to change the landscape in downtown Payne in the coming months by eliminating the Community’ s newest eyesore.

Last year the Chamber, aided by the Village’s purchase of its 119 N. Main Street building, combined its resources with donations from many local residents and purchased the buildings on the northeast corner of the Town’s center and then demolished the buildings to make way for the Antwerp Exchange Bank’s new ‘Payne Banking Center’. When those buildings were eliminated, it revealed the newest eyesore that the Chamber chose to purchase and ultimately eliminate. And as before, with very generous donations coming in from Chamber and Community members, the “Green Awning Project” building will soon be history. Demolition of the building is tentatively scheduled for April, pending Contractor availability.

Presently, the Chamber has no specific plans for the vacant lot that will remain once the building is eliminated. Chamber officials noted that it will certainly be available for future development.

Individuals, organizations and businesses interested in donating to this latest community improvement/economic development project may do so by dropping their donation off to Geoff Hyman, Treasurer of the Chamber at the Payne Banking Center OR by mailing their donation to P.O. Box 411, Payne c/o of the Payne Chamber of Commerce. The current total estimated cost of this project is $52,000 (property purchase, demolition and debris removal).

Your donation is needed and appreciated.
