State Patrol Investigating Commercial Related Fatal Crash

medical emergency policeLiberty Township – The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on State Route 118 at the intersection of Wren-Landeck Road just north of the Village of Ohio City, in Van Wert County.

On September 15, 2016, at approximately 7:27 P.M., a 2001 Chevrolet Impala operated by Timothy L. Perry, age 42, of Eaton, Ohio was traveling west bound on Wren-Landeck Road. A 2005 Western Star Semi tractor-trailer operated by Ronald E. Wolf, age 72, of Greenville, Ohio was traveling south on State Route 118. The driver of the Chevrolet failed to stop at the posted stop sign and struck the left side of the semi-trailer.

Mr. Perry, was pronounced dead on scene by Van Wert County Coroner Dr. Scott Jarvis. He was transported by Ohio City EMS to the Van Wert County Morgue. The driver of the semi did not claim injury.

Mr. Wolf was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Mr. Perry was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. Next of kin has been notified and the crash remains under investigation.

State Troopers with the Van Wert post were assisted on scene by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, the Van Wert City Police Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio City Fire and EMS, Robinson’s Towing and Hague Towing.

The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists to be extra cautious of the area they are driving with the current detour routes causing some motorists to be unfamiliar with the roadway. Always make complete stops at posted stop signs to ensure traffic is clear before proceeding through an intersection.
