\"police-lights\"<\/a>Van Wert \u2013 The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers and local law enforcement will operate OVI checkpoints in Van Wert and Paulding Counties tomorrow evening.<\/p>\n

The OVI checkpoints, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.<\/p>\n

Based on provisional data, there were 309 OVI related crashes in which 341 people were killed last year in Ohio. Lieutenant L.D. Brode of the Van Wert post said, “State Troopers make on an average of 24,128 OVI arrests each year in attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from out of roadways.”<\/p>\n
