Roll Call: Pat Baumle, Lisa McClure, Duane Sinn, Perry Sinn, Dick Swary \u2013 All Present.<br \/>\n<strong>Recognition of Guests:<\/strong><br \/>\nTim McDonough \u2013 Defiance Crescent-News<br \/>\n<strong>Report of the Treasurer:<\/strong><br \/>\nTreasurer Gary Ginter reported that all tax revenues have now been collected for this school year and that proceeds are slightly higher than expected. He also noted that projected expenses are on target to meet budget expectations. Items we feel are needed as parts of our improvement plan are:<br \/>\n\u2022 Repair of the Elevator<br \/>\n*We received an \u201cElevator Violation Notice\u201d after our inspection last week.<br \/>\n*The elevator has never been used by a student or teacher and to our knowledge the only time it has ever been ran is during the inspection<br \/>\n\u2022 Tile in the kitchen need to be replaced over this summer<br \/>\n\u2022 Playground needs more \u201cmulch\u201d to fill in the low spots<br \/>\n\u2022 Painting of the hallways and restrooms<br \/>\n\u2022 New bathroom partitions are beginning to and will need replaced<br \/>\n\u2022 The downspouts have wholes in and need to be repaired for now, but at some point they will need to be replaced<br \/>\n\u2022 The snow blower is rusting and the belt continues to fall off. We will need to look at replacing the snow blower soon.<br \/>\n\u2022 This year twice we have had electrical issue that could have canceled school. Gregg and I would like to see the generator hooked up to run the entire GH building.<br \/>\n\u2022 The roof over the 83 section will need to be repaired\/repainted within the next two to three years.<br \/>\n*We still are unable to find the source of our leaks. They seem to be somewhere different each time it rains.<br \/>\nAcademics:<br \/>\nAll Evaluations have been completed using the new OTES process. During my final evaluation meetings with the staff we discussed the process along with the effectiveness of the process. At this time I feel very confident in saying that most of the teachers felt this process was very helpful in defining areas for growth and improvement.<br \/>\nDuring the month of May all teachers in grades K\u20133 will be busy with the end of the year diagnostic assessments. At the completion of these diagnostic assessments our teacher will have a good idea of how much growth the students have made this year.<br \/>\nOn Saturday April 12, 26, and May 3 we held OAA review sessions at WTGH. Over the course of the three Saturdays we had anywhere from 50 to 60 students attend.<br \/>\nThe Grover Hill team came in second place during the Paulding County Battle of the Books. This was a great experience for our students. After watching the Battle of the Books in grades 5 and 6 I am speaking with our 1\u20134 teachers about having an in-house battle of the books.<br \/>\nKindergarten screening was held April 23-24. During the screening process we had 41 students attend. I am now in the process of finalizing the data and contacting the parent to set up a meeting to discuss the screening results.<br \/>\nOn May 13 at 1:30 and again at 7:00 our 1st-3rd grade students will be presenting their Spring Musical. Mrs. Wieland and her classes have been working hard on this program and I know it will be an outstanding program.<br \/>\nMay 20 at 7:00 our elementary bands will be performing at the high school. On this night the elementary bands will play and then the junior high and high school bands will perform.<br \/>\nThe final quarter reward for the year is on May 22nd. For this final reward we will be taking those students who qualify to the YMCA in Van Wert.<br \/>\nMay is the month of field trips. The field trip schedule for WTGH students is:<br \/>\n\u2022 May 16<br \/>\n*Preschool and kindergarten will be going to the Fort Wayne Zoo<br \/>\n*Second grade classes are going to Stone Co.<br \/>\n\u2022 May 20<br \/>\n*Grade 4, 5, &amp; 6 will be going to Fort Wayne Botanical Gardens<br \/>\n\u2022 May 23<br \/>\n*First Grade will be going to Spangler Candies in Bryan<br \/>\nDuring the month of May we also have many awards ceremonies. The dates are:<br \/>\n\u2022 May 23 at 1:30 is the kindergarten program<br \/>\n\u2022 May 29 at 9:30 is the assembly for grades 1-3<br \/>\n\u2022 May 29 at 1:00 is the assembly for grades 4-6<br \/>\nOther Items:<br \/>\nThe PTO will be sponsoring Carnival and Olympic Day on Wednesday, May 28.<br \/>\n<strong>Payne Elementary School Principal\u2019s Report \u2013 Jody Dunham:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Building Updates:<br \/>\na. Security:<br \/>\ni. The ASG security updates are completed. Custom Audio is in the final stages of completing the security camera upgrades.<br \/>\nb. Maintenance:<br \/>\ni. Bill and I are planning routine summer maintenance projects. We are in the process of getting quotes from vendors.<br \/>\n2. Kindergarten registration was a success. At this time, we have 25 students enrolled in Traditional Kindergarten and 13 students in Transition Young Five\u2019s Kindergarten.<br \/>\n3. The May 6 two hour delay in-service at WTPE consisted of our Tech Team presenting updated information to teachers about Google Docs and our IIS (Instructional Improvement System) Team introducing the Thinkgate system. I led the teachers through the completion of the Ohio Leadership Advisory Council Module titled \u201cTeacher Based Teams: What District\u2019s Need to Know\u201d. This module has been the focus our of monthly building professional development meetings since January.<br \/>\n4. The Ohio Achievement Assessments were administered to students in grades 3-6 on May 7, 8, and 9. **The teachers spent endless hours of planning and teaching to have the students ready for this test.<br \/>\n5. **The following WT high school students provided our students with an OAA pep rally on May 6. Those students were Blair Baumle, Maddie Baumle, Chuckie Chastain, Brenda Feasby, Estie Sinn, Hank Sinn, Devon Wenzlick and Brock Worden. They did an amazing job getting our students excited to take the OAA\u2019s!<br \/>\n6. The Paulding County Sheriff\u2019s Department provided us with an assembly titled \u201cKerry Kazaam, The Safety Man.\u201d The program taught the students about safety tips at school, in the community, at home and when using technology.<br \/>\n7. May 27 PTO Sponsored Carnival<br \/>\ne. May 29 Awards Day Grades 1-3 @ 9:15; Grades 4-6 @ 10:30<br \/>\n<strong>Jr\/Sr High School Principal Report \u2013 Greg Leeth:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. I want to thank Mrs. Gudakunst, Mr. Speller, and the many parents who chaperoned the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip the week of April 28. Mrs. Gudakunst reported that the students were well behaved and she received many compliments regarding the group\u2019s behavior. I also want to thank the Board of Education for supporting this educational trip and recognizing the value of having our students experience education outside the walls of the school building.<br \/>\n2. Mrs. Camille Myers and the many parent volunteers did an outstanding job putting on the prom on May 3. From the valet parking to the after prom activities, everything was well coordinated and well chaperoned for our students. Much work goes into this event; I appreciate the community involvement in sponsoring an enjoyable and safe evening.<br \/>\n3. Tuesday, May 6, the high school staff learned about incorporating technology into their lessons as teachers prepare for the 1:1 computer implementation for the 2014-2015 school year. The two hour in-service began with a short introduction regarding details of the Straight A Grant and teacher laptops before a presentation from technology team members on a Learning Management System called Schoology. The last hour of the in-service was spent working in collaborative groups sharing resources, web sites, and ideas for incorporating technology in the classroom.<br \/>\n4. Ms. Heiby and several students recently attended the State FFA convention. Matthew Klopfenstein won Star State in Agribusiness and was elected State FFA Treasurer. He now has the opportunity to compete against all the other star state winners in the Eastern Region (20 states) at the Big E in Massachusetts this September.<br \/>\nArlen Stoller was the state winner in his proficiency award area, Placement in Swine Production. His application will now move on to the national level this summer.<br \/>\nJoe Schmidt and Treanna Bidlack performed in the State FFA Band. Joe is planning to apply to participate in the National FFA Band this fall.<br \/>\n5. Standardized testing was completed this month with the administration of the AP Biology and Spanish tests and the seventh and eighth grade OAA tests. Students and staff have worked hard to prepare for these tests.<br \/>\n6. A number of special events are scheduled for the month. In addition to graduation, we have a junior high band and choir concert, a high school band and choir concert followed by an awards ceremony, and senior awards night.<br \/>\nOf course, it is not all work and no play as we seniors will be traveling to Cedar Point for a class trip, the junior high will have a dance, and the entire student body will have the opportunity to participate in Relay for Life.<br \/>\n7. Informational meetings will be held this month for students and parents regarding the 1:1 computer implementation. Curriculum<br \/>\nTesting Season: We expect the OGT results back any day. We expect the OAA results back by mid-late June.<br \/>\nTechnology: The 1:1 program is still on pace. We have orientation meetings planned for May 13 and May 22. We have drafted a set of policies that we\u2019re asking for approval (consent item 0). We\u2019ve also applied for a second Monsanto Grant and reapplied for the Elementary Straight A Grant.<br \/>\nDual Credit Agreements: Recommendation that Wayne Trace continue our existing dual credit agreements with both Wright State University (consent item P) and Rhodes State College (consent item Q).<br \/>\nB. Personnel<br \/>\nAlyssa Saylor tilled in during one of the OAA tutoring sessions. Recommendation that she be compensated for her time (consent item A).<br \/>\nMr. Leeth and his interview team are recommending the new teachers found in consent items B, C, and E. Mrs. Dunham and her team are recommending the new teacher found in consent item D.<br \/>\nMr. Wilson is recommending the volunteer transfer of Jessica Jacobs to the new transitional kindergarten position at Grover Hill (consent item F).<br \/>\nMr. Arnold is recommending the approval of the retire\/rehire of Ann Olwin for her current position (consent item G).<br \/>\nKatie Perkins is expecting, and is seeking approval of twelve weeks off under FMLA (consent item H).<br \/>\nPending approval of all consent items, the following certified positions are left to be filled:<br \/>\n\u2014Transition Kindergarten teacher: WTPE<br \/>\n\u2014Intervention Specialist: WTPE<br \/>\n\u2014Intervention Specialist: WTGH<br \/>\n\u20143rd Grade Teacher: WTGH<br \/>\nThe position of JH\/HS secretary has been posted. Recommendation is expected in June. A part-time study hall monitor is also needed at the JH\/HS.<br \/>\nConsent items K, L, and M all include recommendations for supplemental coaching\/advising positions.<br \/>\nConsent item N contains the recommendations for the summer custodians. Note: we are asking for approval of more students so they can split time.<br \/>\nPer agreement with the WTEA, approval of two coaching resignations (consent items S and T) is requested so that the positions can be posted.<br \/>\nRecommendation for approval of Elyse Myers contract as JV Girls basketball coach (consent item U) so that she can begin working with student-athletes prior to the June BOE meeting.<br \/>\nDue to the reorganizing of the online learning lab, recommending approval of Katie Scarbrough\u2019s contract be increased from three days per week to five days per week (consent item V).<br \/>\nC. Buildings and Grounds<br \/>\nJH\/HS Gym Roof: We are exercising our warranty with Richland Roofing.<br \/>\nJH\/HS Gymnasium: We have obtained quotes to have the walls in the main gym painted. No decision at this time.<br \/>\nThe last of the light poles are now out of the ground at the Payne ball park. Mr. Arnold and Mr. Wilson have discussed painting some of the multi-colored walls at the GH building. No decision at this time.<br \/>\nD. Events<br \/>\nJr\/Sr Prom: Camille Myers, the junior class, and the junior class parents hosted a nice evening\/morning on May 3-4 (consent item I).<br \/>\nAthletic Booster Club Raffle: Everyone who helped made this such a great event again. Profits are expected to be between $5,000-$5,500. Building-Level Events: The principals have multiple events scheduled over the last few days of school (all of which can be found in the district newsletter). Graduation is set for May 25 at 2:30 pm in the HS gymnasium.<br \/>\nSenior Parents Night: Discussion was held concerning changing the 9-12 parents night to one senior parent\u2019s night.<br \/>\nE. Operations<br \/>\nEnrollment currently stands at 1,031 students.<br \/>\nOHSAA Membership: Each year we are required to renew our membership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (consent item J).<br \/>\nNEOLA: Due to some changes in the law, approval is requested on a handful of policy changes (consent item R).<br \/>\nHall of Fame Inductees: The HOF committee has selected Harold Sponseller and Jim McElroy for this year\u2019s class. This event is scheduled for October 10. Negotiations: Our initial meeting has been scheduled for Friday May 16.
