Indianapolis – U.S. Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-03) was recently recognized by the Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives as a \u201cFriend of Indiana\u2019s Electric Cooperatives.\u201d Rep. Stutzman, along with several other members of Indiana\u2019s congressional delegation, received this honor for steadfast leadership and support of the issues and policies important to Indiana\u2019s electric cooperatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndiana\u2019s electric cooperatives are grateful to count Rep. Stutzman as a strong friend and ally,\u201d said Scott Bowers, vice president of government relations for the Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives. \u201cWhether seeking support on key votes or assistance with federal agencies, he consistently steps forward to lend a helping hand. This award is one way of expressing our appreciation and acknowledging Rep. Stutzman\u2019s impact on the 1.3 million Hoosiers we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cFriends of Indiana\u2019s Electric Cooperatives\u201d award was unveiled this year to recognize members of Indiana\u2019s congressional delegation who have consistently supported policies, issues and regulatory reforms important to Indiana\u2019s electric cooperatives and their mission to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity. Important votes in support of the Coal Ash Bill (H.R. 2218), the Farm Bill (S. 954 & H.R. 2642) and the REINS Act (H.R. 367) coupled with the congressional representative\u2019s willingness to engage various federal agencies on behalf of electric cooperatives were some of the considerations for this honor in 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Hoosier families fight an uphill battle to make ends meet, the increasing cost of Washington\u2019s red tape is passed on in higher monthly utility bills,\u201d said Rep. Stutzman. \u201cThe Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives is working to lower energy costs for families and small businesses and I\u2019m proud to partner with them in their great work. Hoosiers understand that the solution can\u2019t be bigger government but an all-of-the-above energy plan that harnesses the potential of electric power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indiana\u2019s third congressional district, which Rep. Stutzman currently represents, includes over 205,000 electric cooperative member-owners who are served by nine electric distribution cooperatives.<\/p>\n

Eight other members of Indiana\u2019s congressional delegation joined with Rep. Stutzman in receiving this recognition in 2013. They are:<\/p>\n
