PPEC awarded eight scholarships through its Children of Members Scholarship Program, which honors academic excellence, leadership, and future goals of high school seniors whose families are PPEC members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 1st Place ($1,000): Laney Hedrick, Ottawa-Glandorf High School. Daughter of Jason and Wendy Hedrick. Plans to attend Rhodes State College to major in nursing. Laney will also compete for an additional statewide scholarship through Ohio\u2019s Electric Cooperatives in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 2nd Place ($750): Grace Goyings, Paulding High School. Daughter of Trent and Kelly Goyings. Plans to major in biology with a marine\/aquatic focus and minor in horticulture or botany at either Miami University or Bowling Green State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 3rd Place ($500): Makenna Smith, Woodlan High School. Daughter of Bradley and Elaine Smith. Plans to study elementary education at either Purdue University West Lafayette or Purdue Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Honorable Mention ($250 each):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Ryan Verhoff, Kalida High School \u2013 Plans to study engineering or computer science at The Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Reagan Miller, Ottawa-Glandorf High School \u2013 Plans to major in primary education at The Ohio State University \u2013 Lima or the University of Toledo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Abby Hohlbein, Ottoville High School \u2013 Will study motorsports marketing at the University of Northwestern Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Kaylyn Gerold, Lincolnview High School \u2013 Plans to pursue a nursing degree at the University of Cincinnati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Noah Schroeder, Ottawa-Glandorf High School \u2013 Will study music education at the University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Community Champion Scholarship Winner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The $1,500 Community Champion Scholarship is awarded to a student who has made a positive impact in their community, based on nominations or letters of recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year\u2019s recipient is Olivia Edwards, a senior at Woodlan High School and the daughter of Jodee Hirsch. Olivia plans to attend Purdue Fort Wayne to major in business administration. She has made a significant impact through efforts like starting her school\u2019s Polar Plunge team, raising funds for Special Olympics, helping Woodlan become a \u201cChampions Together School,\u201d and volunteering with the humane society, the Salvation Army, the American Heart Association, and local food outreach programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n General Scholarship Drawing Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During PPEC\u2019s annual meeting broadcast on March 22, ten $500 scholarships were awarded through a random drawing open to members and their children pursuing college, trade, or technical programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The students that were drawn were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Lillian Wyatt \u2013 Fort Jennings<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Elizabeth Meyer \u2013 Fort Jennings<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Wesyn Ludwig \u2013 Convoy<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Morgan Hoersten \u2013 Cloverdale<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Evan Crosby \u2013 Payne<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Destiny Pier \u2013 Continental<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Leyna Nagel \u2013 Hoagland<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Nicholas Sinn \u2013 Haviland<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Allison Richman \u2013 Fort Wayne<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Rose Turnwald \u2013 Ottawa<\/p>\n\n\n\n Youth Tour Delegates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Two high school sophomores will represent PPEC on the 2025 Youth Tour to Washington D.C., June 15-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Noah Brinkman, Ottawa-Glandorf High School. Son of Dean and Allyson Brinkman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Ella Crosby, Wayne Trace High School. Daughter of Chad and Angela Crosby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Youth Tour offers students a once-in-a-lifetime leadership experience in our nation\u2019s capital, including visits to historic landmarks, Smithsonian museums, Arlington National Cemetery, Gettysburg, and meetings with congressional leaders. Nearly 40 Ohio students and over 1,800 nationwide will attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Camp Kilowatt Participants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Four local middle school students will attend Camp Kilowatt, an interactive energy camp for incoming seventh graders, held June 4-7 at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year\u2019s campers are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Alexandria Short \u2013 Convoy<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Gavin Thomas \u2013 Oakwood<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Isabella Kuhlman \u2013 Ottawa<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 Ryleigh Littrell \u2013 Monroeville<\/p>\n\n\n\n Camp Kilowatt features fun and educational activities like bucket truck rides, rock climbing, archery, ziplining, and a live line safety demonstration to help students learn about electricity and safety while building leadership skills and friendships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Applications for all PPEC youth programs \u2013 including scholarships, Youth Tour, and Camp Kilowatt \u2013 open in December and close in February each year.
