WOODBURN \u2013 On a night that saw a triple overtime battle in varsity boys basketball action, it was visiting Angola who outlasted host Woodlan 81-72 recently in non-league play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The host Warriors opened a 16-10 lead at the end of one quarter before the visiting Hornets cut into the deficit and pulled within 25-21 entering the halfway point of the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angola picked up 14 markers in the third quarter compared to a dozen for Woodlan as the Warriors held a slim 37-35 margin going into the fourth period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final stanza of regulation, the Steuben County squad picked up 16 points while the Warriors bucketed 14 to knot the contest at 51-51 entering the first overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams then scored nine points in the first extra session to keep it tied at 60-60 before each squad picked up seven markers in the second overtime for a 67-67 contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third overtime proved to be the difference as Angola added 14 points compared to just five for Woodlan in giving the Hornets an 81-72 decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tyler Ruple paced the Hornets with 20 points in the contest, leading a quartet of Angola players in double figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niles Knox bucketed 15 points to aid the Hornet cause with Cru Weber chipping in a dozen and Ryan Stuckey contributed ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Thomas and Tommy Caswell each totaled eight points for Angola with Landon Leach finishing with six and Kyler Huscher picked up two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trey Yoder topped all scorers in the contest with 26 points for Woodlan and Oliver Adams picked up 16 for the Warriors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mason Moore also reached twin digits for Woodlan with 11 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other scorers for the Warriors were Keaton Delagrange (eight), Jordan Halsey (six), Ashtin Jacquay (two) and Zach Scheiderer (two).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
