Imagine riding the runners behind a team of dogs, steering a loaded sled through mountainous terrain, crossing the vast Alaskan tundra while hugging the shoreline of the great Bering Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learn all about the life of a musher and her sled dogs during special presentations June 4 at all three Defiance Public Library System locations. Musher Karen Land and her Alaskan husky, Noggin, will visit Hicksville\u2019s Johnson Memorial Library at 10:30 a.m., Sherwood Branch Library at 1:00 p.m., and Defiance Public Library (in the Summer Reading Tent on the Fort Grounds) at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Land is a writer, public speaker, and three-time participant in the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, as well as many other sprint and endurance races in Alaska, Canada, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Maine. Since 2000, Land has traveled to nearly every state with her Iditarod dog sled, mushing gear, Arctic clothing, and beloved dogs to offer more than 1,000 educational programs at schools and public libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
