Guy Fleming Heazlit was born November 30, 1890 in Omaha, Nebraska. The son of Perry, born March of 1851 in Ohio and Mary Eliza (White) Heazlit born in 1856 in Ohio.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This couple was married in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The Heazlit family had moved to Nebraska between the years of 1885 and 1899. Guy’s sister Edith was born in 1885 in Ohio. A sister, Elsie, was born in March of 1893 in Nebraska. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 1900 the Heazlit family had moved back to Ohio, living in Crane Township. Perry was engaged in farming. The children were in school. By 1910, the Heazlit family was still living in Crane Township. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 11, 1908, Guy’s sister, Edith, married a fella named William J. Gordon and moved to Paulding. Guy was a farm laborer working for his father, Perry. Guy became a school teacher in 1912. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As America was drawing ever closer into war, June 5, 1917, Guy had registered for the draft at the Crane Township precinct. He was listed as single, 5’4″ tall, red sandy hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, medium build, and a school teacher. Guy joined the National Army out of Paulding. On April 28, 1918, he was sent to serve with the 11th Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. On May 3, 1918, he was assigned to Company F. 329th Infantry, 83rd Division. On June 12, 1918, Guy was sent to Hoboken, New Jersey to board the ship, “Anchises”, and sent overseas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guy served the 329th until July 30,1918. He was reassigned to Company L. 101st Infantry, and he remained with this unit until the end of the war. He served in St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne defensive sector. Guy was slightly wounded October 24, 1918, and became 20% disabled. He served until December 9, 1918 and was honorably discharged January 27, 1919. Guy came home to Paulding County, met a gal named Eva J. Stuart, born December 12, 1895 in Crane Township. They were married July 19, 1919. Through this marriage, they had four children: Edith c., Robert F., Ruby I., and Evelyn R. By 1920, Guy was still engaged in farming as well as teaching school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 25, 1928, Guy’s father, Perry, passed away in Paulding. By 1930, Guy, Eva and children, were still living in Crane Township. Guy hung on to the farm and was still teaching school. By 1940, the Heazlit family had moved to Main Street in Cecil, Ohio. Guy gave up farming to become more available for other teaching duties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1942, Guy had to register for the World War Two draft. At 51 years old, he was not chosen. By 1950, still living in Cecil, with the children all grown and moved out, Guy and Eva settled down. Guy was still a school teacher at the Junior High Level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometime after 1951, Guy’s health began to fade. He was taken to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where he became a patient for 28 days. On March 28, 1952, Guy Fleming Heazlit, passed away. He was taken by cancer, Lymphatic Leukemia. He was taken back to Paulding County by the Crowell funeral home. On March 31, 1952, Guy was laid to rest in Rochester Cemetery, section 3, row 4. In 1986, Eva passed away and was buried with Guy in Rochester Cemetery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
