Just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend, the Oakwood\/Melrose Hometown Hereos Committee has installed 131 banners on posts throughout the communities.  The distinctive red, white, and blue banner program was over a year in the making and was coordinated with the help of the local American Legion Post #341.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe community support for this program was truly incredible,\u201d said Kelly Tumblin, the Chairperson for the program.\u00a0 \u201cIt really shows the patriotism and sacrifices made by our local hometown heroes dating back to WWI.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe goal of the project was to have the banners on display for this Memorial Day Weekend celebration,\u201d added committee member Deedi Miller.  \u201cWe invite all residents of Paulding County and the surrounding area to take a drive around both towns and salute the dedication these extraordinary Ohioans made on behalf of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local resident, Dan Eakins, owner of R&B Fabrication, applauded the program that included his father, Ron Eakins, who served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1962-1965. \u201cMy Dad is right in front of the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department, right where he would have wanted to be, watching over the department.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Oakwood\/Melrose Hometown Heroes Committee included Kelly Tumblin, Mike and Deedi Miller, Josh Duslak, Greg Hill, Marty Adams, Tami AuFrance, Cody and Denny Donaldson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
