Last week Mother Nature won again, making many area racetracks cancel their shows. The tracks south of Indy were able to dodge the rain and cold. Saturday night the World of Outlaws sprint car series fought off the rain, and got their race in at Tri State Speedway, in Haubstadt, Indiana. Former USAC Sprint Car champion \u201cThe Macho Man\u201d Brady Bacon found victory lane for the first time with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. With two laps to go he got around Sheldon Haudenschild for the win. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native became the 150th different driver to win with The Greatest Show on Dirt. Rounding out the Top 5 Spots were 2nd. Sheldon Haudenschild, 3rd Brad Sweet, 4th. Carson Macedo and 5th. Tyler Courtney. One of our area fan favorites Carson Macedo remains the championship points leader by 12, ahead of Brad Sweet. In May the WoO will stay in OH, IN and PA, with visits to Eldora, Lincoln Speedway, Williams Grove, Attica Raceway Park, Sharon Speedway, Atomic, and Lawrenceburg. I\u2019m sure many of you watched the debut of the \u201cWorld of Outlaws: The Good, The Young, and The Dirty\u201d on CBS Sunday, May 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The USAC Midwest Thunder Midgets announced last week that their Rookie of The Year Award will be named in honor of the late Wally Sexton. He was a car owner known for giving many young new drivers a chance to get behind the wheel of his cars. He had a limited budget, but that didn\u2019t stop his cars from being competitive. After races he would sit down with his drivers and go over tapes of their race and break it down for them on things they needed to work on. He was a real race coach. As the Focus series began to fade, Wally was dedicated to growing the ‘SpeeD2’ concept of affordable production-based engine packages in midget racing. Unfortunately, Wally passed away in 2020 just as the concept was taking off in the Indiana\/Ohio region. Wally Sexton Jr. approved the use of his late father\u2019s name for this award. In 2020 Abby Hohlbein from Ottoville won the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget Rookie of The Year Award. You can see the USAC Thunder Midgets Friday, May 12th at Limaland Motorsports Park and Saturday, May 20th at the historic Eldora Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angola Motorsport Speedway is set to open Saturday, May 20th. This has been a fan favorite track for years in our area and attracts some of the Tri-state\u2019s top asphalt drivers to the 3\/8th mile high banked oval. They race several classes on most race nights with Late Models and Modifieds headlining the shows. Visit their web page for their schedule and weekly information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s keep it on the pavement. This past week ARCA Racing drivers Lavar Scott and Andr\u00e9s P\u00e9rez de Lara attended media day at Flat Rock Speedway, promoting the upcoming DutchBoy 150 on May 20th. Along with ARCA Cars, fans will also get to see Figure 8 and Street Stocks in action. Tickets for this night of racing are on sale now. Saturday, May 13th, the Outlaw Super Late Models will be at Flat Rock, and NASCAR alumni Ken Schrader will be competing. It will be a full show with Figure 8\u2019s and Street Stocks. I want to point out that Toledo and Flat Rock run their own type of Figure 8\u2019s. These aren\u2019t like the Big Winged Figure 8 Late Models and Outlaw Winged Figure 8 Modifieds you see from the Indianapolis Speedrome, Jeffersonville Sportsdrome or other tracks you see on the racing channels.
