Fort Wayne river advocate Dan Wire received the prestigious Friend of Conservation award from the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ (IASWCD) Friend of Conservation Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to soil and water conservation in Indiana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan Wire is a long time River Advocate. Wire currently serves as co-vice president of the Maumee Watershed Alliance and serves as an associate supervisor and advisor to Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District. Dan is passionate on getting people to the rivers and on the rivers. He has worked tirelessly with the Allen SWCD to get producers and growers on the river for educational pontoon tours, focusing on the effects agriculture is having on the WLEB. Dan was a key organizer of Rivers Summit III, Partnerships for Water Quality. Rivers Summit III brought water quality issues in the Western Lake Erie Basin Watershed to the forefront. The event included presentations on federal and state legislative policies, private conservation endeavors, the economic impacts of water quality, and the state of the science in the Western Lake Erie Basin. Emphasis was given to coordinating agency and organization efforts to produce measurable successes in nutrient loading reductions.
