The Wayne Trace wrestling team enjoyed a highly successful Division III sectional wrestling tournament at Lima Central Catholic over the weekend as seven different Raider grapplers advanced to the district tournament this coming weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nathan Osborn (190), Samuel Moore (150), Jarrett Hornish (144), Hunter Long (132), Jared Pierce (126), Conner Blankenship (113) and Corbin Kimmel (106) all moved on to the district on March 4 and March 5 at Hobart Arena in Troy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kimmel, Long and Hornish all claimed sectional championships at Lima Central Catholic, with Hornish also posting the 100th pin of his career as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kimmel recorded pins of19 over Allen East\u2019s Aizik Myers in the semifinals before pinning Lima Bath\u2019s Carter Deppe in18 to win the championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long also won a pair of matches to claim the title. In his opening round, he pinned Lima Central Catholic\u2019s Bryce Williams in 32 seconds before winning the championship with a pin of Columbus Grove\u2019s Zane Stechschulte in 28 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hornish recorded the 100th pin of his four-year career in the quarterfinals, taking down Coldwater\u2019s Jordan Houser in 23 seconds. After winning by default over Delphos Jefferson\u2019s Anthony Bodine in the semifinals, Hornish took the title with a pin of Allen East\u2019s Trenten Gatchell in 4:40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierce and Osborn both brough home second place finishes for the Raiders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierce pinned Crestview\u2019s Hayden Tobias in 41 seconds before defeating Ada\u2019s Clayton McClain 14-7. However, the Raider grappler came up short in the championship in falling to Spencerville\u2019s Carder Miller 10-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osborn defeated Allen East\u2019s Brogan Paxson 6-1 in his opener but fell to Coldwater\u2019s Caleb Stammen in the finals via a pin at the 2:44 mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moore recorded a third-place finish overall, recording wins over Delphos Jefferson\u2019s Donnie Riorden (pin, :41), Coldwater\u2019s Sam Obringer (pin, 2:01), Parkway\u2019s Landon Younker (16-0) and Spencerville\u2019s Emerson Layman (pin, 5:44). Moore\u2019s lone loss came in the championship semifinals to Lima Bath\u2019s Ezekiel Burkholder, a 7-0 defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blankenship also moves on after finishing fourth at 113.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He defeated Lincolnview\u2019s Cody Ricker (pin, 5:52) and Columbus Grove\u2019s Levi Schroeder (pin, :48) but dropped matches to Crestview\u2019s Gavin Grubb (10-8) and Coldwater\u2019s Tyler Overman (4-2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antwerp wrestlers advanced two grapplers to the districts this past weekend at Archbold. Eli Reinhart and Trayce Lengacher both finished sectionals in fourth place. They will wrestle at districts at Rossford next weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

132 \u2013 Cons. Round 3 – Braden Studenka (Evergreen) 11-12 won in sudden victory – 1 over Sheridan Matty (Paulding) 16-15 (SV-1 14-12)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

138 \u2013 Cons. Round 3 – Landon Brigle (Montpelier) 20-20 won by fall over Jesse Shaffer (Paulding) 10-22 (Fall 4:43)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

144 \u2013 5th Place Match – Jeremiah Smith (Paulding) 16-15 won by fall over Austin Pennington (Evergreen) 25-19 (Fall 2:15)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

157 \u2013 1st Place Match – Dalton Wolfrum (Tinora) 22-8 won by tech fall over Dawson Lamb (Paulding) 33-4 (TF-1.5 2:27 (16-1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

175 \u2013 Cons. Round 3 – Blake Flower (Edgerton) 32-12 won by fall over Cayden Breier (Paulding) 15-16 (Fall 4:43)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

190 \u2013 Cons. Round 1 – Drake Harris (Swanton) 11-17 won by fall over Marciano Murdock (Paulding) 6-14 (Fall 3:46)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a team we placed 10th at the sectional tournament. We wrestled the best we have all year. I am very proud of what this group of guys accomplished and extremely proud of how far they have grown in the sport of wrestling,\u201d commented Paulding wrestling coach Brian Porter. \u201cHalf of our wrestlers were first year wrestlers or first time varsity wrestlers and they came out today with tons of heart and grit unlike what they have all year. We won some tough matches and lost a few close ones. But all and all we wrestled amazingly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paulding earned one sectional runner-up on this day with Dawson Lamb in a loss to Tinora in the finals and one alternate is Jeremiah Smith who won his last match against Evergreen. Cayden Breier lost in the consi quaterfinals in a tough match that he almost won. Sheridan Matty also lost in the consi quaterfinals with a tough loss in over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the day Sheridan went 1-2, Jesse went  0-2, Jeremiah went 3-2 , Dawson went 3-1 , Cayden went 0-2, Marciano went 0-2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
