A horrendous crash damaged the Historic Old Fort.\u00a0<\/strong>

Historic Fort Wayne was heavily damaged by an automobile Thanksgiving morning.  A neighbor called the FWPD after noticing the automobile lodged in the Fort wall.  When the FWPD arrived on the scene, they found the damaged automobile but the driver was gone.  An investigation is pending. This is not the first time the Fort has been damaged by a vehicle.  Historic Fort Wayne Board of Directors have often expressed concern over the excessive speed of drivers along that stretch of Spy Run.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accident damaged the northeast corner of the Fort\u2019s wall causing structural damage to several of the large timbers which provide the foundation to the outer walls.  The baker\u2019s oven in that corner also sustained a significant hit by some of the planks and timbers. There are numerous cracks in the mortar on three sides of the oven.  Due to the complications existing from the proximity of the dike, the baker\u2019s oven location, and the remaining original concrete foundations, it will be an expensive repair.  The Fort needs your help!
