The incident occurred on U.S. Route 127 in Paulding County on August 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ohio State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jonathan A. Gray, Van Wert Post commander, presented him with a \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d certificate signed by Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Thomas J. Stickrath and Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"318\" height=\"196\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/saved-by-the-belt-2.jpg?resize=318%2C196&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/saved-by-the-belt-2.jpg?w=318&amp;ssl=1 318w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/saved-by-the-belt-2.jpg?resize=260%2C160&amp;ssl=1 260w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/saved-by-the-belt-2.jpg?resize=160%2C99&amp;ssl=1 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRonald is a living testimony to the effectiveness of safety belts,\u201d Lieutenant Gray said. \u201cEveryone needs to buckle up every trip, every time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provisional data from 2019 shows 457 people in Ohio were killed in traffic crashes where a safety belt was available, but not in use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d Club is a joint effort by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and more than 400 Ohio law enforcement agencies.
