{"id":26013,"date":"2019-03-12T12:05:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T16:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/?p=26013"},"modified":"2019-06-07T12:06:45","modified_gmt":"2019-06-07T16:06:45","slug":"wayne-trace-local-school-boe-meeting-minutes-3-11-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wayne-trace-local-school-boe-meeting-minutes-3-11-19\/","title":{"rendered":"WAYNE TRACE LOCAL School BOE MEETING MINUTES 3\/11\/19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Wayne Trace Local School District Board of Education met in Regular session on March 11, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wayne Trace High School Lecture Room<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following members were present: Mr. Pat Baumle, Mrs. Lisa McClure, Mr. Duane Sinn, Mrs. Kori Stoller, Mr. Dick Swary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Brock Howe, Assistant Principal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll Call was taken by Treasurer, Lori Davis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Correspondence, Recognition of Guests, Hearing of the Public*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Thirty minutes of public participation will be permitted.&nbsp; Each person addressing the Board will give their name and address.&nbsp; If several people wish to speak, each person will be allotted 3 minutes until the total of 30 minutes is used.&nbsp; During that period no person may speak twice until all who desire to speak have the opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*All statements should be directed to the presiding officer; no person may address or question Board members individually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guests:&nbsp; Mr. Tim McDonough, Crescent News; Mrs. Tina Mead, Instructor; Mrs. Tamara Nouza, Instructor; Mrs. Nan McMillan, Community Member; Miss Lydia Yenser, New Elementary counselor for 2019-2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs. McMillan was present to speak to the board about her concern with the extended day.&nbsp; She feels the 1 hour extra is a hardship on young children and their families.&nbsp; Mrs. McMillan felt that each child should be provided with a snack and that homework should be kept to a minimum on the extended days. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Winans introduced Lydia Yenser to the board.&nbsp; Miss Yenser is to be hired as the Elementary Guidance Counselor for the 2019-2020 school year.&nbsp; Miss Yenser gave an overview of her experience and schooling. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs. Tamara Nouza and Mrs. Tina Mead gave a presentation on a conference they both attended on teaching Math at the K-3 level.&nbsp; They are excited about what they learned and how it is helping in the classroom with the K-3 students. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Report of the Treasurer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treasurer, Lori Davis informed the board that the 2016-2017 Medicaid audit was finished.&nbsp; The district will be receiving a settlement of $71,468.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consent Agenda Items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One resolution passed by the Board to approve the following consent agenda items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motion by:&nbsp; Mr. Baumle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seconded by:&nbsp; Mrs. McClure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. to approve the minutes of the February 11, 2019 board meeting;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B. to approve the investment report and payment of bills for February 2019 as presented by the Treasurer;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C. to approve the cash reconciliation for February 2019;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 4.00 Mills &nbsp; Inside Operating;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 23.70 Mills &nbsp;Outside Operating; .70 Mills &nbsp; 2000 OSFC Construction and Renovation Bond; .50 Mills &nbsp; 2000 Local Funded Initiative bond;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; .50 Mills &nbsp; OSFC Construction Maintenance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Before we pass the consent resolution, are there any items you would like to move from the consent agenda to the discussion agenda for further discussion and\/or for separate voting purposes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll call vote:&nbsp; Mr. Baumle, Mrs. McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mrs. Stoller, and Mr. Swary, aye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nay, none. Motion passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vantage Report \u2013 Mr. Pat Baumle reported that Vantage Career Center has several new classes starting.&nbsp; The All Boards Meeting is scheduled for April 4, 2019 and the entertainment for the evening will be the Wayne Trace Band and Choir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Report of the Building Principals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Superintendent\u2019s Report<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Superintendent Winans thanked Haviland Drainage for their donation of red tile to be installed on all of the fencing here at the high school. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. Curriculum<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Testing Season: The 2018-2019 state-mandated tests will be administered mid-March through the beginning of May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Tina Mead and Tammy Nouza are coming to our meeting to update the Board on a recent conference they attended to update their math curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B. Personnel\t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Consent items A and B represent resignations from one teaching position and one supplemental position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 In consent items C and D you will find our recommendation for our elementary counselor and WTGHE elementary secretary position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 We have a few supplemental positions to fill which are listed in consent item E.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 At this point, we currently are working to fill our open intervention specialist position at the junior high level. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C. Buildings and Grounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 We continue to work with Garmann Miller Architects to finalize plans for our bid on the press box and bleacher replacement at the football\/track complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 With spring right around the corner we will again be working a local company to apply fertilizer and weed control to our athletic fields and the grounds at all campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; \u2022 True vine tree service will also be working at the junior\/senior high campus to remove two dead trees and also shape and prune seven other trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. Events<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Oklahoma will be performed on March 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 17 at 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Vantage All-Boards Dinner: April 4 at 5:30 p.m., program begins at 6:00 p.m.&nbsp; This year our very own Wayne Trace Performing Arts department will provide the entertainment for this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u2022 Several extra-curricular deserve recognition for outstanding accomplishments.&nbsp; This recognition can be found in consent items F thru K.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E. Operations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Enrollment: 991 students, which has remained consistent for the past three months despite movement of students in and out of the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Consent item L represents the approval needed by the Board for the recent trip to the district and state wrestling tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 The open enrollment period begins April 1 (consent item M).&nbsp; We plan to continue with the same guidelines and procedures as previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Consent item N represents the approval to adjust the school calendar to make up days missed due to unsafe travel conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I. Consent Agenda Items<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One resolution passed by the Board to approve the following consent agenda items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motion by:&nbsp; Mr. Swary; Seconded by:&nbsp; Mrs. Stoller<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. to accept the resignation of Zach Boyer as Intervention Specialist at the end of the 2018-2019 school year;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B. to accept the resignation of Terry Campbell as the junior high cross country coach;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C. upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary principal and Wayne Trace Payne Elementary principal to offer Lydia Yenser a contract as elementary guidance counselor;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. upon the recommendation of the Superintendent and the Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary principal to offer Kimberly Troth the position of Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary secretary;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E. upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, Wayne Trace Jr\/Sr High principal, Wayne Trace Assistant Jr\/Sr High principal and athletic director to offer the following supplemental positions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Head Volleyball Coach \u2013 Katelyn Llyod<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Head Cross Country \u2013 Terry Campbell<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 JH Track \u2013 Annette Sinn;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F. to commend Coach Bethany DeJarnett, the assistant coaches, and the varsity girls basketball players for capturing the GMC championship and sectional title;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>G. to commend Claire Sinn on being the fourth girls basketball player in school history to achieve the 1000 point milestone;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>H. to commend Coach Jim Linder, the assistant coaches, and the varsity boys basketball players for capturing the GMC championship and a sectional title;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I. to commend Head Wrestling Coach George Clemens III, his assistant coaches and the following varsity wrestlers for claiming an individual championship at this year\u2019s Green Meadows Tournament:&nbsp; Gabe Sutton, Jarrett Hornish, Hunter Long, Seth Meggison, Wyatt Stabler, and Eli Moore;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J. to commend Hunter Long as he has qualified for the State wrestling meet, as well as Eli Moore who will represent our district as an alternate at the State wrestling meet;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K. to commend Coach Tyler Ash, his assistant coaches and the following junior high wrestlers for claiming an individual championship at this year\u2019s Green Meadows Tournament: Connor Blankenship, Nyle Stoller, Graiden Troth, and Kaden Woolbright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L. upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, JH\/HS Principal, and Athletic Director, to approve overnight trips for the high school wrestling team on March 1 to attend the District Wrestling meet in Troy, Ohio and March 6, 7 and 8 to attend the State Wrestling meet in Columbus, Ohio;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M. to confirm that open enrollment applications will be accepted between April 1, 2019, and July 1, 2019, for the 2019-2020 school year, with such applications being accepted from qualifying students from anywhere in the state of Ohio (not simply just students who reside in contiguously bordering school districts);<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N. upon the recommendation of the Superintendent and administrative team to approve changes to the school calendar which include extending the day by one hour from March 6 to April 2 and adding May 24 and 28 as days which students will be in session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Before we pass the consent resolution, are there any items you would like to move from the consent agenda to the discussion agenda for further discussion and\/or for separate voting purposes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll call vote:&nbsp; Mr. Swary, Mrs. Stoller, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Sinn, and Mrs. McClure, aye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nay, none.
