More pictures at westbendnews.net<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>AKRON &#8211; Junior pitcher Carlie Hanes struck out 15 batters to tie a state record and lead the Antwerp Lady Archers to a Division IV state championship with a 5-0 win over Mechanicsburg Sunday at Firestone Stadium in Akron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hanes also added a big two-run single in the game deciding fifth inning that saw the Lady Archers plate all five runs to take control of the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heading into the home half of the fifth scoreless, the blue and white seized control of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a single by Lauren Schuller, Shaelin McCrea put down a bunt that Mechanicsburg mishandled as Schuller advanced to second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catcher Karsyn Brumett followed with a run-scoring single that plated Schuller for a 1-0 Archer lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Tiera Gomez intentionally walked to load the bases, Hanes followed with a two-run single to right field that pushed the Antwerp lead to 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Astianna Coppes added a run-scoring groundout that plated Gomez before Samantha Rigsby picked up a RBI single for a 5-0 advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, Hanes shut the door on Mechanicsburg but the Indians didn\u2019t go quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two Antwerp errors put runners at first and second with one out in the sixth before Hanes got a pop out and a strikeout to end the threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, in the seventh, a leadoff single from Francys King opened the frame but back-to-back strikeouts of Morgan Heizer and Taylor Hurst put Mechanicsburg down to its final out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?resize=800%2C533&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25922\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?w=1016&amp;ssl=1 1016w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?resize=560%2C373&amp;ssl=1 560w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?resize=260%2C173&amp;ssl=1 260w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Ant-vs-Mech-SB-Asti-Coppes.jpg?resize=160%2C107&amp;ssl=1 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Asti Coppes catches the fly ball, and finishes the game for the Archer win! More pictures at westbendnews.net<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Archers wrapped up the state championship when Audrey Ayars popped out to Astianna Coppes and the Antwerp celebration began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cThese girls have worked so hard,\u201d commented Archer head coach Krista Ordway. \u201cI am so proud of them and of the whole community. The support we have gotten all season long has been tremendous and you saw that again here today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hanes picked up her 22nd win of the season, improving to 22-2 on the year, with the complete-game victory that saw her allow three hits and two walks. The junior hurler finished the season with a trio of consecutive shutouts in wins over Crestview, Peebles and Mechanicsburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also led the Antwerp offense with two singles and two runs batted in while Brumett and Samantha Rigsby each added a single and drove in one run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lauren Schuller and Alyssa Fuller chipped in singles for Antwerp. Kennedy Trabel, Tiera Gomez, Ali Reinhart, Schuller and McCrea all scored a run. Astianna Coppes also had a run batted in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francys King took the loss for Mechanicsburg, tossing four innings while giving up three hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.
