Paulding County Hospital is pleased to announce that Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation is now being offered to women in the community who may suffer from pelvic pain and incontinence issues. Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation is a non-surgical method of retraining pelvic floor muscles that influence the control of bowel and bladder function. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michelle Van Etten, DPT a physical therapist for 14 years at Paulding County Hospital has recently received training in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation. Michelle will be treating the following diagnosis: stress incontinence, urge incontinence, mixed incontinence, and pelvic pain. In addition, low back pain and sacroiliac (SI) pain can have a pelvic floor component that can benefit from this specialized treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evaluation and treatments are all completed in a private, dedicated Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation room within the hospital. Treatment may consist of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, biofeedback, electrical stimulation, and manometry. Pelvic floor treatments can consist of both internal and external components. A combination of techniques will be used depending on each patient and their particular pelvic floor disorders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One in four women suffer from one or more pelvic floor disorders. The frequency of pelvic floor disorders increases with age, affecting more than 40 percent of women from ages 60 to 79.  Most symptoms associated with incontinence and pelvic floor pain can be treated, or even prevented.
