Legend has it that all of the people were to stay inside and not look or peek, but a fellow named Tom, a tailor, peeked out of a 3rd story attic and was struck blind.

According to the typical version of the story, Lady Godiva took pity on the people of Coventry, who were suffering grievously under her husband’s oppressive taxation. Lady Godiva appealed again and again to her husband, who obstinately refused to remit the tolls. At last, weary of her entreaties, he said he would grant her request if she would strip naked and ride on a horse through the streets of the town. Lady Godiva took him at his word, and after issuing a proclamation that all persons should stay indoors and shut their windows, she rode through the town, clothed only in her long hair. Just one person in the town, a tailor ever afterwards known as Peeping Tom, disobeyed her proclamation in one of the most famous instances of voyeurism.

Another theory has it that Lady Godiva’s “nakedness” might refer to her riding through the streets stripped of her jewelry, the trademark of her upper class rank. However, these attempts to reconcile known facts with legend are both weak; in the era of the earliest accounts, the word “naked” is only known to mean “without any clothing whatsoever”

*Wikipedia

PROGRESS IN ANTWERP 2018

By: Stan Jordan

On Erie Street, Paulding County Hospital Regional Health Center was opened on March 26. It is a beautiful edifice and very easy to get to and is handicapped accessible.

We have a new ice cream shop, KB Scoops, Kara Eicher and her husband Matt are the owners.

Jennifer Ramsier, her daughter Anne and Jennifer’s sister, Susann opened a shop, &Junque, on South Main St. It has antiques, gifts, refurnished furniture and much more.

The bowling alley is reopened for bowling and carries a line of fine foods, also.

There is a new home being built out in Oley’s addition.

Jeremiah Johnson built a beautiful new house west on 424.

Out at the high school, they are still working on the new baseball field.

There was a new sign erected on the front lawn of the school.

There was a new electric sign erected at the West Bend News for any advertising for your event.

The Antwerp police acquired a new golf cart.

The ACDC volunteers put in a lot of hours at the park marina, it made getting in and out a lot easier.

Our local Zoro made a fork out of a tree trunk and some other handiwork, like an arrow down by the river.

At the present time, there is a lot of repairing on the city sewer. He was injured in the fall of 2018 with some damage to the chest and abdominal area. After missing a few games he has decided to drop out of football this season and recuperate so he can be in top shape for the NFL draft. He was born in 1997 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and went to Saint Thomas High School there and excelled and was all state all the time. He is leaving the school to put all his time in rehabilitation.

All the big boys say he will be picked up in the first draft on a number five or quicker.

Bosa played in all 13 games as a true freshman at Ohio State in 2016, recording 29 tackles, seven of which were for a loss, and five sacks. His sophomore year, he became the starting defensive end for the Buckeyes in seven games. Bosa was named a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten and the Smith-Brown Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year for his 32 total tackles (14.5 for a loss) and a team leading seven sacks. Additionally, he had two pass breakups, eight quarterback hurries and a blocked kick. On September 20, 2018, it was reported that Bosa underwent core muscle surgery, ruling him out indefinitely. On October 16, Bosa announced that he was dropping out of school to focus on his preparation for the 2019 NFL Draft, where he is considered a potential first round selection.

*Wikipedia

See ya!

WWII ARMY SLANG

By: Stan Jordan

G.I. –
