Van Wert, Ohio \u2013 The Van Wert Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on US 30 near Lincoln Highway. On July 11, 2018 at 5:25 pm, Mohamed Adbi Saeed, 26 years old, of Burnsville, Minnesota, was operating a 2016 Freightliner semi carrying miscellaneous freight westbound on US 30. Occupying the sleeper birth of the semi was Bennie Warren McCurtin, 37 years old, of Lawton, Oklahoma. Mr. Saeed exited the left side of the roadway, traveled through the median and entered the eastbound lanes. Upon entering the eastbound lanes, the semi overturned, spilling its freight onto the roadway. The semi continued to slide over the eastbound lanes and came to rest on the south side of US 30 in a ditch. Mr. Saeed was partially ejected from the semi and was pinned under the semi and had to be extricated by mechanical devices. After being extricated, Mr. Saeed was flown by air ambulance to St. Vincent medical center in Toledo, Ohio with serious injuries. Mr. McCurtin sustained minor injuries and was transported to Van Wert Health by ambulance.<\/p>\n
The eastbound lanes of US 30 were closed for approximately one and a half hours. Traffic was detoured by ODOT during this time.<\/p>\n
Assisting at the scene was ODOT, Van Wert Sheriff\u2019s Office, Middle Point EMS and Fire, Hague Towing and Recovery and Big Daddy\u2019s Towing and Recovery.<\/p>\n
The crash remains under investigation and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Neither the driver nor occupant were wearing seatbelts. Seatbelt use would have reduced the injuries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
