What I am talking about is that quarterback who won’t stand for the National Anthem but he will kneel down. His name is Colin Kaepernick and played for the L.A. 49ers.

As I understand he is protesting some policeman’s actions involving and shooting some black men. I agree he has the right to protest the police action, but not during the raising of the flag and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

It has been the ritual to stand at attention and pay homage through the entire playing and/or singing at national sporting events since the World Series in 1918. Each and every school pupil has learned to do it that way and I certainly don’t think it needs to be changed.

The leaders of the NFL tell the players if they don’t want to stand for the National Anthem, they can stay in the locker room until the ritual is over, but if they are on the field they must stand at attention.

Now all of this comes out of those 3 words “My civil rights” I have said before in my column, this wonderful country can be destroyed from within if we are not careful.

Now to get down to earth on this man’s demonstration on the police action. He is right, there are some rogue cops as well as dirty football players. But doing what the policeman says will cut down a lot of whining. We people only see one side of a police stop, we never see what has gone on before nor how bad this man’s rap sheet is, but when he starts to run he is guilty of something.

Yes, some policemen have made mistakes, but I’ll bet that quarterback hasn’t won all the games he played in. I’ll bet he has fumbled a time or two. I’ll bet he has been intercepted a few times, too.

Everyone makes mistakes.

See ya!

THIS SO CALLED SUMMIT MEETING

By: Stan Jordan

This big country seems to be ready for a meeting with a small time dictator and I’m against it. We are getting down to his level and sometimes his level is shaky! Over the years, since the signing of the DMZ deal they have proven those people cannot be trusted in the DMZ they have even committed murder.

They have show us by television that they blew up their atomic – rocket proving ground. Well that was the blowing of a hillside. That was a farce, their whole country is army type secret stuff is under ground. They are about as secretive as they can be.

It is too early to be making deals with them, just weeks ago these people were hurling insults at each other. They know and we know that America will not be the first to use the atomic bomb and I don’t think (and hope) that they won’t! Although they are ready to live underground, we are not. Maybe some of our leaders are?

Let’s just feel those people out for a while and see how far China and Russia will let that little man go.

Why not just exchange ambassadors for a couple years?

See ya!

A STORY

By: Stan Jordan

This is a true story of a day 50-60 years ago on R-1 when I was a mailman.

It was a chilly, rainy day in March or April back in 1950 or 60.

On all my 34 years on R-1 I always tried to be at their mail box at the same time everyday and I pretty much was.

I stopped at the mail box of Earl Starry and put his mail into the box. When I left his box to go on south I always looked to my left and waved at Pearl, as she would be walking across the yard to the mail box.

Well, I looked to the east toward the house and got the shock of my life. They had sort of a back deck without a roof on it for a porch and Pearl was laying on her back in the rain waving her arms so I could see her and get some help.

Well I hurried over and asked what I could do for her. She said, “There is a blanket in on the couch, please get it for me.”

There was a lot talking going on now, she kept thanking me for stopping. She said, “I knew it was about time for you to come and you always look this way and I hoped you would look this way today.”

She was laying in the rain and she was soaking wet and cold. Then I examined her ankle, her foot was pointed off to the side and the bones were just sticking out in the rain, no blood, just bare bones.

She kept thanking me and said, “I knew it was about time for you to come and you always looked in, I prayed for you to look this way.”

Well luck would have it, my in-laws lived in the next house and they had a telephone. So my mother-in-law called Schilb Funeral Parlor as they had a hearse that was used as an ambulance, there was no E.M.S. anywhere yet at that time.

I and my father-in-law went back to Pearl’s house and rigged up a chair and carried her into the house and by then Tommy Schilb and Dr. Caine had arrived.

So, I went on my way and the boys took Pearl to Paulding County Hospital. She had an awful long time to heal as it was a bad break.

See Ya!

A CAT FISH STORY

By: Stan Jordan

This following catfish story was given to me by Louis Simonis and I thank him for it.

He is the author of: The Maumee River in 1835. It is available on line, I suggest you get a copy, because it is very interesting.

CATFISH SPECIAL

When I was six or so old, my father first let me go fishing with him. One Sunday afternoon we were sitting along a bend of the Maumee River, just west of Antwerp. It was a hot July day, the river smelled of fish, we each had a line out, but the only bites we got were from pesky flies. After a while Dad got up, and said; “Son, you keep an eye on your line, I’m going to try a spot just down river. We will be able to see each other, just be careful.” Well, now Dad had no sooner got to his new spot and was engrossed in baiting his line, when I hooked a whopping big catfish, it took all my strength to land him. When I got near him, now that fish just took a jump and a flip catching me, and swallowing me whole. He was a twisting and turning all over the place and we went smack dab right into the river. With me inside that ole catfish, he could barely swim, so we just kind’a drifted down stream in the muddy Maumee. About the time we reached where Dad was, he cast his line and by golly he snagged that ornery catfish. Didn’t know what he had, but with me inside that catfish he had a heck of a time landing that shovel headed monster. Once Dad finally landed him, it looked about as big as Carryall Rock. Dad stood there looking with a grin from ear to ear, then I popped out and said; “Hi Pops.” Well now Dad just fainted away, fell flat on his back, he did. Got that fish into the pickup and headed home. Dad said it was the biggest and best darn tasting catfish he ever caught.

Louis A. We have been reporting that for over a year or so and the power that be just hem hawed a little but I guess they have been spotted in Napoleon, Ohio. Well I’m certainly glad that it is now official.

The reports of bob cats in the area, we are hearing about that more often also.

I had heard of cougars over in northern Indiana, for 3 or 4 years now.
