The need for skilled nurses continues to grow nationwide, and Northwest State Community College is leading the way in preparing students to meet the healthcare demands of our communities. All NSCC Registered Nursing and Practical Nursing graduates from the December 2017 class each earned a 100% pass rate for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) in their respective fields.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of our nursing students and the dedicated faculty that help to make it so successful,\u201d said Patti Altman, dean of nursing. \u201cA 100% passage rate for both programs is an amazing accomplishment, and we are grateful for the dedication and contributions of NSCC students and faculty to make this once again a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
Employers are reaching out to NSCC faculty and students even before graduation looking to fill job openings as soon as the students successfully complete their exams. Many of these health care facilities also provide additional opportunities for students with tuition assistance if they want to pursue the next level of their education.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to provide training that leads to career opportunities, which is why we work closely with local healthcare facilities,\u201d said Altman. \u201cOur curriculum aligns with what area employers need and coursework easily transfers to other institutions for those students looking to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nursing careers are hard work, but are also potentially lucrative, which makes the NSCC education worth the time and effort. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), the mean annual wage from May 2017 for a Registered Nurse is $73,550, while the mean annual wage for a Licensed Practical Nurse is $45,710.<\/p>\n
