{"id":21050,"date":"2018-03-07T17:00:58","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T22:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/?p=21050"},"modified":"2018-03-07T08:36:38","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T13:36:38","slug":"oakwood-recycling-drop-off-site-to-shut-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/oakwood-recycling-drop-off-site-to-shut-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Oakwood Recycling Drop Off Site To Shut Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5184\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Recycle.png?resize=104%2C108&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"104\" height=\"108\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Recycle.png?w=288&amp;ssl=1 288w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Recycle.png?resize=260%2C269&amp;ssl=1 260w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.westbendnews.net\/autonews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Recycle.png?resize=160%2C166&amp;ssl=1 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 104px) 100vw, 104px\" \/>Due<span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">\u00a0to abuse of the recycling drop off site in the Village of Oakwood, the WMEA Program will no longer have it as a recycling drop off site effective immediately.\u00a0 This will affect not only Oakwood, but also Melrose and Junction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is an unfortunate situation for those communities in Paulding County.\u00a0 The problem of people abusing the Oakwood Village drop off site is not new \u2013 it has been an ongoing problem.\u00a0 The program Manager, Becky Suvar, attended one of the Oakwood Council\u2019s meetings where this was discussed.\u00a0 The village provided signage to put site letting residents know when the recycling date and times were to happen; what to recycle and how to prepare those items; and reminded them that dropping off items before or after was inappropriate.\u00a0 Even with this information, residents continued to abuse the site, leaving items as much as two days ahead of the designated date and times listed.<\/p>\n<p>This situation created many harmful issues to the community<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Site became an eyesore as the site was located at the park<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Littering possibilities occurred with rain and wind<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 With such bad practices, others began to abuse the site as well<\/p>\n<p><b><i>What\u2019s next?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The residents will no longer have the WMEA Program to come to their own community to recycle \u2013 but may have to travel to continue to recycle.<\/p>\n<p>The Village of Oakwood and the Village of Melrose have a contract with Real Waste to pick up recycling.\u00a0 Residents, however, must call them to get on their recycling route. Their number is 419-594-3555.<\/p>\n<p>Erie Recycling located in Antwerp will accept recycling items \u2013 24\/7.\u00a0 For more information, their number is 419-258-2345.<\/p>\n<p>Kohart Recycling located just outside of Broughton will take cardboard, steel cans, newspapers only. For more information, their number is 419-399-4144.<\/p>\n<p>The Junction Community will have an opportunity in March \u2013 only \u2013 to take a recycling survey to try and provide a recycling opportunity for them.
