The Paulding Chamber of Commerce hosted their first Off the Clock at the Paulding County Courthouse, sponsored by the Paulding County Commissioners; and boy, was it a success! Around 100 people filled the main floor of the courthouse before being released in groups to walk throughout the building. Elected officials were stationed in each office to give some history, answer questions, and explain the unique and historical features of the office such as the old vaults, secret staircases, and old records. Both Judge Beckman and Judge Wehrkamp allowed children and some eager adults to get their picture taken in the judge\u2019s chair, gavel in hand. The County Commissioners were stationed throughout the courthouse giving facts about iconic places, and symbols in the courthouse such as the attic, the commissioner\u2019s office, and the Paulding County seal that reads No Compromise.<\/p>\n

Before starting rounds of tours Commissioner Tony Zartman said, \u201cWelcome to your house,\u201d and reminded everyone that the courthouse belongs to the entire county and its people. \u201cI am so thrilled that people of all ages took the tour and were able to learn something new about Paulding\u2019s historical icon,\u201d said Mikayla Pieper, Chamber director. All attendees were so intrigued by the amount of beautiful architecture, fascinating stories, and of course the attic. Never seen by most people, the attic showcased the old water system, phone system, and even pieces of the original glass ceiling.<\/p>\n

The Paulding Chamber of Commerce appreciates the commissioners for hosting Off the Clock at the courthouse and also appreciates all of the other elected officials and courthouse employees for staying off the clock to help educate, and fascinate the community. The Chamber\u2019s next Off the Clock will be held on March 1st sponsored by the Paulding Entrepreneur Network (P.E.N).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
