Now there are 12 – 15 different bowl games. For some schools, a sort of a Coupe De Grace.

But let’s talk about the National Championship Series, better known as the NCS, generally known, controlled and put on by the same boys more favored by the SEC.

In my way of thinking, Ohio State has a good football team, not a great team, but a good one. But those four teams picked for the National Championship Series are great teams. I don’t think Ohio State could have gotten by Clemson in the first round.

But then again, on any given day anything can happen and cause an upset. Besides those four teams, there are another four good teams Wisconsin, Ohio State, University of Southern California and one of the Florida teams.

I think the playoffs should take the top eight teams. There is enough time and I know those games would be a sell out.

I think those men who select the top four, could do just as well picking the top eight and let them draw for an adversary. That would mean four more games of smash mouth football.

In some of those bowl games, the winning school can take home over 7 million dollars and any of those play off games could bring in that amount.

All of the games should be played in the south or a domed stadium. None of this playing in the miserable, cold weather.

What do you think?

See ya!

It’s About Time

By: Stan Jordan

This booklet sells for one dollar per copy. That is a whale of deal. The pictures are so clear and informative. It’s about time we talk about our sponsors. In this booklet there are the names of over 60 businesses here in Antwerp and the nearby area along with the names of about one hundred athletic booster backers.

Now just this past week I wrote a column about shopping locally when you can. Support our local business people because they support our school, our first responders and any and all activities that we have in the whole year.

Those big department stores don’t back us at all. So, support our local businesses when you can.

You can be an Antwerp Archer Patron and get your name on the booster page by sending $20.00 to P.O. I believe every one of these ladies. Of course the man is going to call her a liar, but I’m sure it is the man that is lying.

This sort of molesting, cheating, brow beating and rank pulling has been going on since King David had Captain Uriah placed on the front line so he would be killed and David took over Uriah’s pretty wife.

It seems when a politician gets in Washington D.C. all the pretty ladies become fair game. What a tangled web we weave, when we start to deceive. Ben Franklin told me that some time ago.

This is all for a while, but I think it will continue.

See ya!

The area Eagles

By: Stan Jordan

I have written before about this subject, but I guess that I will have to admit and realize that our local eagles have moved their nest.

It was across the river and the east end of Riverside Veterans Memorial Park for over 10 years. It blew down once and the eagles rebuilt it in the same location, and it blew down again, and the eagles left the area.

Now that was this past spring of 2017. In talking with Barb Butzin, who lives down by Dead Man’s Curve, she tells me that the eagles built a nest across the river from her house this past spring. I really think those two adult eagles are the ones who use to have a nest here in Antwerp, but who knows?

I talked with a number of people these last few weeks about the eagles and I will tell you what I found out.

An eagle’s main diet is fish, that is why in our area all the nests that we know about are on a river.

Eagles will eat road kill, but I have been told they won’t eat a opossum. Squirrels, coon, most anything, but not opossum. They thrive on kittens, small dogs or chickens…anything they can carry.

This is December 5th and I just had coffee with Steve Derck and he told me the best news that I have heard in some time. He told me he thinks the eagles rebuilt their nest on the north side of the river. Steve and his wife, Nancy, live in the last house on North Main Street on the east side.

He said he walked down to the river two or three hundred yards and now that the leaves are gone, you can see the nest plainly. It is a good sized nest and one of the adult eagles was there on a limb.

Steve had told me before that the eagles had been carrying small limbs from his backyard, but beings the leaves were on at that time, he didn’t know what the new nest was until now.

Steve also told me about coming home from the farm and he saw an adult eagle and a young one, and the adult was teaching the young how to eat a dead carcass. Steve took the time to watch nature at work.

In just thinking here, that those eagles got their new nest built and still raised their young this past season. I hope so anyhow.

See ya!

Tanker Responses

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Nov. 18, 2016 – Woods fire, 3405 CR 144; Protected exposures

Jan 18, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Crane Twp: House fire, 8361 CR 230; Supplied water to Crane Twp.

Feb. 2, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Paulding: Airplane hanger fire, 11503 Rd 93; Supplied water to Paulding pumper

April 24, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Crane Twp: House fire, 8548 Rd 192

June 15, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Crane Twp: House fire, 12464 Rd 8; Supplied water for Crane pumper

July 19, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Scott: Straw on fire in barn, 10438 Rd 48; Supplied several loads of water for Scott pumper

July 20, 2017 – Called back to supply water for yesterday’s fire

July 26, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Payne at 3450 State Route 500; Not needed

Aug. 8, 2017 – Mutual aide w/Paulding: Shed fire 7887 SR 111; Not needed

Sept. 6, 2017 – Semi accident on SR 11 @ US 24; Water supply not needed

Sept. 19, 2017 – Barn on fire w/live stock inside, 2354 Rd 424; Supplied water for pumper

Oct. 3, 2017 – Pickup truck fire on US 24 @ MP6; Water supply for pumper

This picture is of Antwerp’s new tanker.
