HICKSVILLE — A homemade Mexican dinner will be a highlight when the Hicksville Village Players perform the comedy mystery \u201cDeath and Taxes\u201d at St. Michael\u2019s Catholic Church on Antwerp Drive in Hicksville.<\/p>\n

The next time you feel as though your elected lawmakers have more on their plates than they can handle, just be glad you aren\u2019t a resident of Hendricks, where the village council has assembled to look for a murderer. The meeting takes on the feel of a jury rather than a typical council session as members of the cast try to figure out who did it and why.<\/p>\n

In \u201cDeath and Taxes,\u201d it becomes clear that the killer is likely one of the people assembled there, especially since everyone has seen the recently-deceased IRS employee in town — and each and every one of the people there seems to be hiding something.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kathleen Lyles (Melody Stevenson) attempts to maintain control of the council as well as of the other strange town characters who become a part of the mystery. Suspects include newspaper editor Eddie King (Grant Smalley), who seems to know more than the average reporter could contribute; the mayor\u2019s secretary Lydia (Rosanna Husted); gung-ho sheriff Wesley Thorne (Jamy Shaffer); sarcastic Carl Johansen and his bickering sister Mattie (Deano Smalley and Anna Smalley); nosy neighbor Cora Sedgewick (Cece Smalley\/Carol Clark); country doctor Efrem Bishop (Dick Hall); drama teacher Evelyn Martindale (Rose Doctor); and her assistant\/gofer\/slave (James Greer). News reports on the murder are provided by announcer Dennis Jackson.<\/p>\n

This will be a dinner theatre, with a homemade Mexican fiesta starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 16, 17, 23 and 24. For those wanting to see the show only, doors will open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. A show-only matinee will be Sunday, June 25 at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
