On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Paulding High School hosted the Dominion Trials, with senior students competing against Hicksville High School seniors in order to win the Dominion Cup. The tournament is part of an effort by area high schools to make school more interesting and perhaps competitive for students, encouraging them to do better in their academic and athletic lives.<\/p>\n

Some of the games involved in the competition on Tuesday involved academic skills, creativity and athleticism, including games like Jenga, tic-tac-toe, \u201cGuess Who\u201d and dodgeball. The games began at 9:00 a.m. and lasted till 1:30 p.m. when Hicksville had to leave. By the end of the day, Hicksville and Paulding were tied with a score of 150-150. For the tie-breaking game, one student from each school was selected to compete against the other in an ultimate game of rock-paper-scissors. Eventually, Paulding won the tie-breaking game, bringing Paulding\u2019s score to 155 and allowing them to win the competition against Hicksville.<\/p>\n

One student, Aaron Horstman, says that he really enjoyed not only the tournament games on Tuesday but also the entirety of the tournament over the school year because it encouraged team work and cooperation among fellow students in their respective grades and because it appealed to his competitive spirit.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, the goal of these games and of the school year was to encourage students to get more out of their academic careers and also to encourage all students to participate in something, even if they weren\u2019t involved in other extra-curricular activities.<\/p>\n

Principal Todd Harmon, stated that the tournament games were sponsored by Marco\u2019s Pizza, who also provided the trophy for the winning school in the competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
