Dear Parson,<\/p>\n

Some people are telling us the American dollar is going to collapse. How should we prepare for that possibility?<\/p>\n

First, start paying off your debts. \u201c…the borrower is servant to the lender\u201d (Proverbs 22:7). In the time of financial collapse you can lose what you do not totally own, and some things you do own, if you can\u2019t pay your creditors. Try to pay off your smallest bill and add that payment to paying off the next smallest bill, etc.<\/p>\n

Second, lay away food, which becomes a scarce commodity in a time of national financial disaster. Six month\u2019s-worth of rice, beans and canned goods is a minimum start. You might also decide how to cook it without utilities in an emergency. God gave Joseph wisdom that saved Egypt and Israel in a time of financial crisis. See Genesis 41:29-36. Also note God\u2019s command to Noah in Genesis 6:21 \u2013 \u201cAnd take unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them (the animals).\u201d<\/p>\n

Third, walk with and serve God faithfully. Note the promise of Christ in Matthew 6:33 \u2013 \u201cBut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.\u201d Note also how God took care of the faithful men like Elijah in three years of national financial crises in I Kings 17:1-16.<\/p>\n
