The Hicksville Aces win the Route 49 Classic this year after defeating Edgerton in game 1 and Antwerp in game 2; more pictures at westbendnews.net<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Last week Edgerton hosted the girls basketball Route 49 tournament. This week Antwerp was the host for the boys classic with Edon, Edgerton, Hicksville, and Antwerp.<\/p>\n

The first game was on Thursday, December 29th, and the finals were on December 30. Antwerp and Hicksville won the first set and therefore competed on Friday night.<\/p>\n

The first quarter was slow for both teams. Logan Thiel scored a 2 and 3 point basket for the Aces. Antwerp on the other hand had a 3 pointer by Brandon Pendergrast and Matt Jones. The first period ended in a low scoring match at 8-7.<\/p>\n

The second period was interesting for the Archers. They rocketed ahead with points by Cole Seslar but then towards the end the Aces\u2019 Logan Thiel eroded the Archers\u2019 points away to the point where the half time score was only 19-17.<\/p>\n

The second half was a completely different game period. The Aces may not have scored that much but Payton Tunis started\u00a0 his scoring. He added 3 2-point field goals and a free throw. It doesn\u2019t seem like that much but they kept the Archers from scoring\u2014only four total.<\/p>\n

The fourth period Hicksville scored just about as many points as as they did the entire rest of the game. Antwerp tried but couldn\u2019t get the ball in. Honestly though, Antwerp did pretty well as it was their highest scoring quarter. It just couldn\u2019t compete against Hicksville\u2019s powerhouse period. The game finished 52-37. Both teams did a great job!<\/p>\n

Antwerp: 8 11 4 14 = 37<\/p>\n

Hicksville: 7 10 10 25 = 52<\/p>\n

Hicksville Scorers: Payton Tunis 10; Logan Thiel 22; Michael Myers 2; Logen Neidhardt 3; Parker Thiel 11; Jake Greer 2; Hunter Evans 2<\/p>\n

Antwerp will play at home on January 5 against Wayne Trace. Hicksville will travel to Holgate on January 5.<\/p>\n
