Wayne, Indiana<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><b>Gene Paul Volkert<\/b>, 82, died Friday, November 27, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Born on May 25, 1933 in Hicksville, Ohio, Gene was the son of the late Glenn Fredrick and Florence Mae (Hefty) Volkert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Gene was a 1951 graduate of Hicksville High School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Gene worked for 30 years at General Electric in Ft. Wayne. He also worked for Kaduk Electric, Volkert Ashland Oil, Pinkerton Security and drove bus for Hicksville schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Gene was a member of the First Church of Christ, Hicksville, Grand Lodge of Free &amp; Accepted Masons of Ohio, Grand Council Royal &amp; Select Masons of Ohio, Knights Templar Bryan Ohio, Life member of the American Legion and the Korean War Veterans Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Surviving family members include a son, William (Bill) Paul Volkert of Columbia City, Indiana; two daughters, Alice Ann Moriearty of Dallas, Texas, Beth Ann Hughes of Antwerp, Ohio; six grandchildren, Dustin Volkert Keesbury of Hicksville, Kalli Volkert and Josh Volkert of Warsaw, Sarah Noethen of Miami, Florida, Allyson Noethen of Columbus, Ohio, Abigail Moriearty of Dallas, Texas; three great grandchildren Serenity, Maverick and Jet Keesbury; and a brother Mervin Burl Volkert of Hicksville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">He was preceded in death by his brother Glenn Lavon Volkert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Funeral services for Gene will be Thursday at 11:00 at the First Church of Christ, Hicksville. Visitation will be at Smith &amp; Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00 -8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Burial with military honors will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars or Wounded Warriors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Online condolences may be shared at <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithbrownfuneralhome.com\/\">www.smithbrownfuneralhome.com<\/a><\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ft.
