The Friends of the Payne Branch Library sponsored a World War II program on Saturday, August 29th featuring author Kent Miller from Hicksville and World War II veterans. Spearheaded by Friend and Library Board member Ron Etzler, this memorable program not only provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the war, but also gave a chance for younger audience members to hear directly from surviving veterans. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. \u201cWe wish we had done this sooner,\u201d shared Suzi Yenser, Payne Branch Manager. \u201cWe are losing our World War II veterans and with them go their memories, stories and insights to this war that changed the shape and direction of our world.\u201d The program, held at the Payne Village office was followed by a reception at the Payne Branch Library where visitors could view the World War II items and memorabilia on display.<\/p>\n

The Payne Branch Library was the second library branch to open in the Paulding County Carnegie Library System. The branch will celebrate 20 years of service in 2016.
