Call 419-399-2032 for more information.

The Paulding County Carnegie Library is pleased to announce a luncheon with award-winning author, Martha Conway. Conway, winner of the 2014 North American Book Award in Historical Fiction for her work based on the Great Black Swamp in northwest Ohio, will be the at the main historic Carnegie Library in Paulding, on Monday, April 20th from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. This event is free to the public and lunch is included, but space is extremely limited, so reservations must be made in advance.

Conway’s second novel, Thieving Forest, brings to life a fascinating and little-known time in American history with a gripping tale of survival, sisterhood, betrayal and love. Immersing its reader in the harsh and unforgiving landscape of northern Ohio’s Great Black Swamp in 1805, Thieving Forest opens on seventeen-year-old Susanna Quiner watching helplessly from behind a tree as a band of Potawatomi Indians kidnaps her four older sisters. With both of her parents dead from Swamp Fever and all of the other settlers away in their fields, she rashly decides to pursue them herself. What follows is a young woman’s quest to save what remains of her family and discover what she is truly made of – and the parallel stories of her sisters’ unanticipated new lives.

A transformative and engrossing read that deftly balances life’s most intimate and universally resonant moments with closely researched details about Ohio’s long-forgotten untamed wildness, Thieving Forest is a dazzling work of fiction from one of today’s most impressive voices – and not to be missed by any lover of great storytelling with yet greater heart. The author grew up in northern Ohio and now lives in San Francisco.

To reserve a seat at the luncheon, call 419-399-2032. There is no charge for this special centennial celebration event and lunch is provided by the Friends of the historic Paulding County Carnegie Library.

The Paulding County Carnegie Library is pleased to announce a luncheon with award-winning author, Martha Conway.
