WAYNE TRACE ROBOTICS CLASS COMPETES AT BGSU

Wayne Trace Robotics student Evan Benschneider demonstrates his robot at a recent Wayne Trace Board of Education meeting along with instructor Ed Stuart

On March 12, 2026, the Wayne Trace CTE Robotics Class participated in the NORTech Robotics Competition at Bowling Green State University. The focus of the competition was “Combat Robots – Antweight Size” meaning that the robots had to fit in a 14” x 14” x 14” container and weigh one pound or less. During the design and building process of the Antweight robots, students in the robotics class learned about robotics functions, troubleshooting, part interferences, teamwork and how to overcome design obstacles.

The NORTech Competition is a head-to-head competition between robots in an enclosed space that lasts until one of the robots is deemed destroyed or pushed into an opening in the floor of the combat arena. There were seven teams that competed through two to three battlebot-like rounds which were three minutes in length. The top Wayne Trace team, comprised of Evan Benschneider, Eli Johnson, Tristan Lands, and Layla Shellenbarger, finished in third place with the other teams placing fifth, sixth, or seventh.  Congratulations to all who participated in this annual competition!
