The Left Turn

By: Ron Burt
The past two weeks have been fantastic for sprint car fans in NW Ohio. Both the High Limit and World of Outlaws raced in our area and The Great Lakes Traditional Sprints, and the Great Lakes Super Sprints have had events.
Tuesday, July 15th, Carson Macedo won the 37th Annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic. Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park. The race featured five different lead changes and at the end of the 40 laps it was Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo scoring the $15,000 payday for his first Brad Doty Classic victory. Macedo, whose brother Cole who won the High Limit race the previous night at Fremont Speedway, now has six career wins at Attica Raceway Park. Kofoid, Donny Schatz (from 16th), Logan Schuchart and Larson rounded out the top five.
The High Limit and World of Outlaw Series headed to Eldora on Wednesday, July 16th, for 4 nights of racing, ending with the annual Kings Royal and $200,000.00 for the winner. Aaron Reutzel and Corey Day split Wednesday’s Double Down Duels at Eldora, punching their tickets into Thursday’s $100,000-to-win Joker’s Jackpot. Both drivers took home $25,000.00 each for their wins.

With a national television audience from FS1, Thursday’s Joker’s Jackpot saw plenty of theatrics with Kubota High Limit Racing at Eldora. The $100,000-to-win, 40-lap main event opened with a bang in a scary way as a severe multi-car pileup tore up contenders including Buddy Kofoid, Tyler Courtney, Bill Balog, Brad Sweet, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Brady Bacon. The winning move of the race came after the halfway point when Larson and Abreu swapped sliders, with the deciding moment coming when Larson was barely, by what seemed like inches, able to squeeze between Abreu and the outside wall to secure the lead for good.
It wasn’t the final challenge for the top spot, though, as Schuchart, Carson Macedo, and Anthony Macri entered the picture to make it a five-way way for a six-figure payday. More drama unfolded in the final stages, however, as Schuchart suffered a flat left rear and then Macedo encountered a flat left front after contact with Larson on a critical restart. After that, Larson cruised down the final stretch and crossed the line with a 2.254-second margin of victory over Anthony Macri. The $100,000 Joker’s Jackpot title marked his 10th career win at Eldora Speedway and 9th career win with Kubota High Limit Racing. Pennsylvania’s Anthony Macri was all smiles after a $25,000 runner-up effort after starting 11th. Early leader Rico Abreu rounded out the podium for a $15,000 payday.
Friday the World of Outlaws had the spotlight with High Limit drivers mixed in on the Knight Before and the night belonged to High Limit driver Rico Abreu. The California native had just finished off a clean sweep of The Knight Before with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars by delivering a commanding performance. He led every single one of the 30 laps around “The Big E” to claim Friday night of Kings Royal weekend for the second year in a row and bank $25,000.00. Joining him on the podium was 2nd Carson Macedo and 3rd Kyle Larson.
Saturday for the 42nd annual Kings Royal was won by 26 year old Anthony Macri. He led all 40 laps. The Pennsylvania Posse driver will forever be known as King Anthony XLII. He was crowned, presented a robe, given his scepter and a check for $200,000.00. Also on the podium was 2nd Friday’s winner Rico Abreu and 3rd Kyle Larson took the Silva Motorsports No. 57 to a third place finish for the second night in a row. He briefly was second with a great restart but didn’t quite have the speed to contend with the two ahead. King Kyle XXXVII wound up a little short of becoming a two-time Kings Royal champion. He still made over #100,00.00 for the week. Kings Royal 50/50 each night supports the Eldora Foundation. Saturday nights winner took home $79,364.00. Won by a very happy fan.
At Limaland Motorsports Park last Friday, Max Stambaugh won the Great Lakes Super Sprint feature. Todd Sherman won the Thunder Stock feature and Aidan Hinds won the UMP Modified feature. Only 2 more Fridays for the 2025 season at Limaland. They always close on the 2nd Friday in August. Many of their drivers will race at other tracks into late fall.
Until next week, keep your wheels down. Ron out!
