The Left Turn

Tracks battled against the weather again for the 3rd week of the season. Area drivers went north to Michigan or southwest to Indiana racetracks.
Montpelier Speedway in Indiana had their first race night with fans packing the grandstands. The crowd was incredible, the atmosphere was electric. Area drivers that normally race at Limaland, Eldora and Oakshade made the haul to compete with the local track favorites. Car classes for opening night included The Heart of America Super Late Model Series, UMP Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets.
McClure Ohio’s Rusty Schlenk picked up his 3rd straight feature Late Model win in a row of this young season. He started first in the feature after winning his heat race and took the checkered flag. Finishing behind Schlenk 2nd Todd Brennand, 3rd Chad Finley, 4th Steve Peeden and 5th Blake Creech. Twenty three Dirt UMP Modifieds took the track for the Mod A Feature but only 11 cars finished the race. Area favorite, Todd Sherman from Churubusco started the feature outside row 3 and fought through traffic to pick up the victory. Dillon Nusbaum picked up 2nd, Dustin Moore 3rd, Cole Sink 4th and rounding out the top five was Dalton Smith. The Street Stock Feature was full of action with 24 cars. Ervin Turner started 4th and worked for the win. Jeff Hinkley, Cody Delong, Dustin Marcum and Jeremy Welber finished behind your winner. Dominic Morehouse won the Hornet feature.
April 13th, Logan Seavey won his second Sumar Classic at Terre Haute as the USAC Dirt Silver Crown cars ran 100 laps on the historic racetrack. His last win on the Action Track was in October 2024. Sunday, Seavey worked his way up through the field from his fourth place starting spot before capitalizing on Daison Pursley’s mistake on lap 55 to take over the lead. Seavey then secured the victory by successfully navigating a green-white-checkered restart to grab the win. It was the 300th dirt race in USAC Silver Crown history, Seavey punctuated the night with his 10th career USAC Silver Crown victory, tying Gary Bettenhausen, Mike Bliss and Tanner Swanson for 11th place all-time. Of his 10 career series victories Seavey’s, eight have come on dirt 1/2-miles. That already ranks second all-time behind only Jack Hewitt’s nine. Behind the winner was 2nd Justin Grant, 3rd Brady Bacon, 4th Briggs Danner, and 5th C.J. Leary.
Until next week, keep your wheels down. Ron out!
