St. Paul’s Gets A Facelift

BEFORE

It was a communal effort as many hands joined in to give the historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hicksville a much-needed facelift. The property, built in 1875 and listed on the Register of Historic Places, is owned by the Hicksville Historical Society. The refinishing

of the exterior is just one of the projects the group has planned.

Ably led by board members,Tom Battershell and Lucas Brown, with additional support from Eric Crall and Roger Gatchell, the exterior was scraped, covered with primer and two coats of paint.

Additional help came from the following:

• James Speiser, who loaned painting equipment plus gave priceless advice.

• Arin Wann, who provided the crew with lunch and made a generous donation to the society for project expenses.

• Jaden Yoder and Kenny Blair for use of their lifts and transporting of same.

• John Battershell for paint at a discounted price, sander, and discs.

AFTER

Also – Joe Larry for supplying gloves, and neighbor Bob Miller for the use of his water hookup.

Now that the painting is complete, additional tasks such as temporarily stabilizing the front circular window and some chimney repair will be done. In the meantime, the Historical Society will continue to seek funding for the complete restoration of the stained glass windows.

St. Paul’s is open for public viewing the first Wednesday of each month from 3 to 5 or by appointment. View the Gothic architecture and listen to the original pump organ. St. Paul’s is also available for use for a number of activities/events. Contact the Historical Society at hicksvillehistoricalsociety@gmail.com. The Society greatly appreciates the support of everyone in the efforts to preserve our town’s past.
