Last Friday, April 25th the Paulding FFA Chapter held its annual petting zoo with over 800 students and staff attending including Oakwood Elementary and Ann’s Bright Beginnings Preschool.

FFA members volunteered to bring in their animals for students and staff to enjoy. This is one of the elementary students’ favorite school days because they get to interact with livestock that they may not get to see up close very often.

The animals that were brought in this year included goats, a donkey, a horse, four rabbits, a calf, a sow and ten piglets, two turtles, a toad, a ewe with 2 lambs, two cats, and three dogs. We were unable to have poultry this year due to Avian Flu but we had a few stuffed birds for students to see.

The petting zoo was a wonderful opportunity to educate the youth about livestock grown in Paulding County. Students were given the opportunity to choose a small gift to take home relating to some of the livestock they saw. There were several other activities for the students who came to the petting zoo including a corn kernel guessing game and a coloring contest for grades K-5.

The petting zoo was a huge success and the Paulding FFA Chapter cannot wait until next year!
