ANTWERP OHIO:
The community of Antwerp will gather to honor and remember local veterans with a series of heartfelt Memorial Day tributes on Monday, May 26, with additional observances scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
Sunday, May 25 – The weekend will begin with the traditional cemetery salute on Sunday morning, where members of the Antwerp VFW Post 5087 will visit multiple cemeteries across the area to honor fallen veterans. At 10:30 a.m., a wreath ceremony will take place at the Maumee River bridge on SR 49, where traffic will briefly pause to allow for a solemn 21-gun salute and the ceremonial placing of a wreath into the river in honor of Navy and Marine Corps veterans lost at sea.
Monday, May 26 – Memorial Day – The main community observance will be held on Monday, beginning with a parade at 10:30 a.m. from downtown Antwerp (at the VFW) to Riverside Veterans Memorial Park. The parade will feature the Antwerp High School Band, Antwerp Fire Department, EMS, and a contingent of local veterans marching in formation.
At 11:00 a.m., the Memorial Day service will begin at the Riverside Veterans Memorial. This year’s featured speaker will be Dave Phillips, a 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran and Antwerp resident, who now co-owns KB Scoops in the community. Reverend Mike Schneider of Antwerp United Methodist Church will deliver the invocation.
Following the ceremony, all are invited to the Antwerp VFW Post 5087, where sandwiches and refreshments will be served to the public.
Organizers expect a strong turnout and encourage families to attend and pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
For more information or to volunteer, residents are encouraged to contact the VFW Post 5087.
PAYNE OHIO:
