LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV):

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  

In this passage, Paul is addressing the Philippian church, urging them to adopt the same attitude as Christ Jesus. This mindset is central to Christian life and community, emphasizing humility, selflessness, and service.

1. **Mindset of Christ (vs. 5)**: Paul begins by instructing believers to have the same mindset as Christ. This is not merely about external behavior but a deep internal transformation that aligns with Jesus’ values, embodying humility and love in our interactions.

2. **Christ’s Humility (vs. 6-7)**: The text highlights the paradox of Jesus’ divinity and his choice to embrace humanity. Although he is fully God, he did not cling to his rights or privileges but chose to become a servant. This act of lowering himself is a powerful example of true humility that we as Christians should imitate.

3. **Obedience and Sacrifice (vs. 8) **: Jesus’ obedience even to the point of death shows the extent of his humility. His death on the cross signifies the ultimate sacrifice, demonstrating that love often involves suffering and self-denial. This challenges believers to consider what they are willing to give up for others.

4. **Exaltation (vs. 9-11) **: Because of Christ’s willingness to humble himself, God exalted him. This establishes the principle that true greatness in God’s kingdom comes through humble service. The passage assures believers that Jesus’ name is the most exalted, and ultimately every being will recognize his Lordship. This not only affirms Jesus’ divine authority but also encourages believers to live for the glory of God.

**Cultivating Humility**: In our daily relationships, we should strive to put others before ourselves, reflecting Christ’s humility. This transformation can lead to healthier communities and stronger bonds among believers.

**Service**: Embracing a servant attitude means actively looking for ways to meet the needs of others. This could be in our families, at work, or within the church.

**Obedience to God**: While challenges and sacrifices may arise, following Christ’s example compels us to remain obedient to God’s will, trusting that He will honor our efforts.

**Worship and Acknowledgment**: Remembering that Jesus is Lord provides a foundation for our faith. In every situation, acknowledging his lordship reminds us of our purpose and prompts us to live for His glory.

This passage invites us to reflect on our own attitudes and actions, encouraging a lifestyle that mirrors Christ’s humility and love.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
