Friends of Independence Dam State Park Awarded Grant for Nature Center

The Friends of Independence Dam State Park have received a $2,500 grant from the Defiance Area Foundation’s March 2025 grant cycle. The funding comes from the Hanna Family Memorial Fund, a charitable fund managed under the Foundation’s umbrella.

The grant will support the creation of a new Nature Center located at the final shelter house before the Tow Path entrance within the park. This educational facility will feature interpretive signage about native birds and trees, as well as other wildlife displays designed to enrich the experience of park visitors. The goal of the project is to provide a deeper appreciation and understanding of the local ecosystem.

The Friends of Independence Dam continue to play a vital role in enhancing the park’s offerings for educational and recreational use by the public, and this new Nature Center will be a valuable addition to their ongoing efforts.
