ANTWERP — In a tightly contested matchup at The Range on Thursday, April 17, the Antwerp Lady Archers were edged 3-2 by the visiting Fairview Lady Apaches after a three-inning rally turned a two-run Antwerp lead into a heartbreaking defeat.

Antwerp struck early in the second inning when freshman Clara Rohrs drove in two runs with a double, giving the Archers a 2-0 advantage. Senior Elle Clem helped pace the offense with two hits and a stolen base, while freshman Taylor Hogans added a single of her own.

Senior Elle Clem, pitcher pitched the entire game with 6 strikeouts for the Archers

On the mound, Clem was stellar once again. The senior ace tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while striking out six. She worked efficiently through the first four innings, keeping Fairview off the scoreboard and limiting opportunities with strong control and a composed presence in the circle.

Fairview’s rally began in the fifth when junior Edreanne Peck drove in a run to make it 2-1. In the sixth, freshman Lilly Warner evened the score, and in the seventh, sophomore Grace Poper crossed the plate to give the Apaches their first lead of the game. Sophomore Samantha Coolman and junior Madisen Sharp each contributed key hits during the comeback, while sophomore catcher Sammy Mavis laid down a crucial sacrifice.

Warner then took over pitching duties for Fairview and was nearly untouchable, tossing four hitless innings and striking out four Archers without allowing a walk. Her relief effort preserved the win for the Apaches, backing up Peck’s early three-inning start.

Despite the loss, Antwerp head coach Shelley Snyder praised the team’s energy and early execution, especially from underclassmen like Rohrs and Hogans. The Lady Archers drop to 7-5 with the loss and will look to regroup as they continue their spring slate.

Fairview, led by head coach Katelyn Dumire, improves to 8-7 with the win and showed impressive poise, especially from a roster featuring a number of young contributors.
