The Antwerp Archers fell to the visiting Fairview Apaches on April 17, dropping a 15-4 contest that was shortened to five innings by the run rule. Despite a late push in the fourth inning, the Archers were unable to recover from a fast and furious start by the Apaches.

Fairview came out swinging, putting up seven runs in the first inning and another seven in the third, taking full advantage of Antwerp’s early struggles on the mound. Senior Derek Hines started for the Archers, allowing eight hits and 11 runs—only four of which were earned—over two innings of work. Sophomore Lucas Sproles came in for relief, giving up two hits and four more runs across the final three frames.

Antwerp’s offense showed signs of life in the fourth inning, when they plated four runs. Senior Braylen Moreno earned an RBI after reaching base three times, while junior Dylan Hahn and senior Teeghun Marlin each scored runs after drawing walks. Sophomore Riley Smith provided the big bat for Antwerp, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Michael Rohrs also knocked in a run with a walk.

Defensively, Antwerp committed four errors, which helped extend innings for Fairview. Meanwhile, the Apaches were sharp at the plate, racking up 10 hits and capitalizing on seven walks. Fairview’s L. Olinger led the attack with a double and two RBIs, while D. Grinnell-Dennis added a triple and drove in two.

The loss drops Antwerp to 0-5 on the season. Head Coach will look to regroup his young team, which includes several underclassmen starters such as Rohrs, Sproles, and Smith. With experienced seniors like Hines, Moreno, and Marlin anchoring the roster, the Archers still have time to find their stride as the season continues.
