Eugene B. “Gene” Weidenhamer

DEFIANCE, OH:

Eugene B. “Gene” Weidenhamer, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born on October 22, 1938 in Jewell, OH to the late Bernard W. and Vivian (Coressel) Weidenhamer. On July 8, 1967 he married Linda L. Manon, who survives. Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked in maintenance at Johns Manville in Defiance for 44 years before his retirement in 2000. Gene was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Defiance. He was also a member of the Paulding VFW Post 587, where he served in the Honor Guard for many years. Gene was also a lifetime member of the Defiance Eagles Aerie 372 and the Defiance Amvets Post 1991. He was an Auglaize Township Trustee for 20 years, a board member for Arthur Mutual Telephone Company, and a charter member of the Auglaize Fire Department. Gene umpired high school baseball and softball for 35 years and refereed high school basketball and volleyball. He was a past president of the Paulding Ball Association, where he coached for many years, a past president of the Paulding High School Athletic Boosters, and an honorary member of the Paulding FFA. Gene was a part of the Ayersville High School 1957 state championship basketball team. 

Along with his loving wife, Gene is survived by his children: Tracy (Mike) Gerken, Defiance, OH; Todd (Regina) Weidenhamer, Paulding, OH; Chad (Leticia) Weidenhamer, Sandy Springs, GA; grandchildren: Jacob, Chantell, Jon, Jennifer, Leva, Brooke, Hailey, Cole, and Kensie; nine great grandchildren with two on the way. 

Gene was also preceded in death by his brothers: Leslie Weidenhamer, David Weidenhamer, Daniel Weidenhamer; sister, Karen Brown. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding, with Father John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in Paulding Memorial Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Paulding VFW Post 587. 

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Den Herder Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to the Paulding County Veterans Memorial.
