ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces traffic restrictions at the junction of I-469 and U.S. 24/Rose Avenue for construction.

Starting on or after March 23, crews will be working on U.S. 24 between Linden Road and Doyle Road. There will be alternating lane closures in both directions for patching work. Crews will also close the on-ramp from eastbound Rose Ave./U.S. 24 to southbound I-469 for reconstruction. Traffic needing to access southbound I-469 should utilize the loop ramps.

Work in the area is expected to be complete by the end of April. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

LIMA, Ohio (Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 will convert eight intersections to all-way stops to improve safety.

The project, expected to begin in March, is part of a statewide initiative that will implement all-way stops at select intersections throughout Ohio.

The locations selected for conversion are where crash data found the most common type of crash was the result of a failure to stop or a failure to yield to cross-traffic that was not required to stop.

“These intersections have a higher rate of angle crashes, which often result in serious injuries or fatalities,” said Chris Hughes, ODOT District 1 deputy director. “Our goal is zero fatalities. When all approaches are expected to stop, crash severity is significantly reduced,” he said.

The work will take place over the next three months; the locations and expected timing of the closures are detailed below:

March 9

Defiance County – State Route 18 (Defiance Avenue)/U.S. 127 (Harrison Street), village of Sherwood

Wyandot County – U.S. 23/State Route 199, both interchange ramps, city of Upper Sandusky 

April 6

Hancock County – State Route 330/State Route 568/County Road 330, near the village of Vanlue

Hancock County – State Route 613/Township Road 142, near the village of Van Buren

May 4

Paulding County – State Route 613/State Route 637, near the village of Melrose

Putnam County – State Route 108/State Route 613, near the village of Miller City

Putnam County – State Route 109/State Route 613, near the village of West Leipsic

Message boards to alert drivers of the changes will be placed approximately two weeks prior and remain on site for approximately two weeks after the change to remind motorists of the new traffic pattern. All approaches of the intersections will be equipped with flashing stop-ahead signs. 

ODOT will continue to monitor the intersections to ensure the all-way stop is operating as intended.

Throughout Ohio, ODOT is reviewing intersections to determine where all-way stops could make travel safer. The solution has been found to improve intersection safety in other states. Since 2018, the state of North Carolina converted over 500 intersections from a typical two-way to all-way stop control. Their analysis of 348 of these locations showed a 100% reduction in fatal crashes and 95% reduction in serious injury crashes. Similar results were also seen in the state of Delaware.

INDOT announces intersection improvements at State Road 37 and Notestine Road.

Starting on or after July 7, crews will begin work to realign Notestine Road with S.R. 37 to help improve safety in the area. Work on the project is expected to be complete by the end of October. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

During construction, the intersection of S.R. 37 and Notestine Road will have varying levels of access depending on the phase of construction. Property owners will have access to S.R. 37 at all times. In early September, S.R. 37 will be reduced to one lane with traffic alternating turns controlled by a temporary signal.

INDOT announces the beginning of construction of the quadrant roadway at the intersection of State Road 930 and Maplecrest Road.

Starting on or after March 17, crews will begin working on the quadrant roadway. During construction, a majority of the work will take place off the roadway in the southeast portion of the intersection. Drivers should watch for lane shifts and narrow lanes on S.R. 930 during construction. Work on the project is expected to last until the beginning of October. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Crews will begin working between Indianapolis Rd and State Road 1/Bluffton Rd on or after Tuesday, September 3. Bridge bearing repairs will be ongoing for approximately four weeks, with the outside lanes closed during phase one and inside lanes closed during phase two. Bridge over the Maumee River closed just over one year for reconstruction

LIMA, Ohio –- (Saturday, May 11, 2024) The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Defiance County Economic Development, and Paulding County Economic Development, Inc. invite the public to attend a ceremony to officially open the reconstructed bridge on U.S. 127 over the Maumee River in Defiance County.

The event will be held Friday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. on the bridge, located south of the village of Sherwood in Defiance County, and just north of the Paulding County line. The ceremony will take place toward the south end of the bridge.

Participants may park on the closed portions of U.S. 127, north and south of the bridge.

The bridge will open to traffic later in the day following the ceremony.

“This event will recognize an investment in highway infrastructure that will endure for many years. We’re offering a unique opportunity for the public to celebrate the opening, walk the bridge, take photos, and enjoy the scenery of the area,” said Chris Hughes, ODOT District 1 deputy director.

The bridge was closed May 8, 2023 and was completely reconstructed during that time. Work to complete the bridge will continue once it is reopened to traffic. Remaining work includes sealing of concrete, seeding, and tree planting.

Miller Brothers Construction of Archbold serves as the general contractor for the $6.4 million project.

Participants may park on the closed portion of U.S. 127 — on the south side between County Road 424 and the bridge, and on the north side between Jericho Road and the bridge.

Due to the Google Campus construction, East Paulding Road will be permanently closed to through traffic on March 1st, 2024. Two signs have been posted at either end of East Paulding Road, between Hartzell Road and Adams Center Road, giving all motorists a two-week notification the closure permanent closure. The specific location of the closure on East Paulding Road will be between the railroad track and Adams Center Road as shown on the attached map below. A detour is marked and will be available, using East Tillman Road. As a reminder, this is a construction zone, so please be advised that any and all traffic must slow down and look for workers during this 2-week transition period.

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a Public Information Meeting for a proposed construction project at the intersection of State Road 37 and Notestine Road.

The proposed project would realign the intersection to help improve safety due to sight distance concerns.

When: Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Harlan Community Park Shelter House, 17701 2^nd Street, Harlan, IN 46743.

Doors for the Public Information Meeting open at 6 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Project representatives will be available before and after the presentation to speak with the public and answer questions.

Construction on the intersection realignment is expected to begin in the late summer or early fall of 2025.

The results are in: One year after opening the roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 127, U.S. 224, and Marsh Road, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 reports a dramatic decrease in crashes at the intersection.

Between January 2019 to May 2022, the U.S. 127/U.S. 224/Marsh Road intersection had 13 crashes, with 3 injury crashes, and 10 that resulted in property damage only. Since opening in August 2022, there have not been any crashes at the roundabout intersection.

The roundabout was funded through Ohio’s Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). Under Governor DeWine the fund grew to become one of the largest traffic safety programs in the country through an increase in the motor-user fee. The initial round of funding following the increase specifically targeted 150 intersections, which included this location.

HSIP funds are available to both ODOT and local governments to make improvements that reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries on all public roads. The program recently funded additional signing on U.S. 30 to reduce wrong-way driving. HSIP funding has been awarded to construct another roundabout at the U.S. 224 and Lincoln Highway intersection in Van Wert County. Construction is anticipated in 2027.

Roundabouts dramatically reduce the severity of crashes by causing all legs of the intersection to slow down and travel in the same direction. Nationwide, Federal Highway Administration statistics show that converting a two-way, stop-controlled intersection to a single-lane roundabout can result in a 40% reduction in total crashes, 75% reduction in injury crashes, and 90% reduction in fatal crashes.
